i feel like you're stating that islamic nations oppress homosexuals because of their religion; many countries oppress/ban/enforce capital punishment upon homosexuality (including Russia, Guyana, Swaziland, etc.) because it is presumed as morally wrong or unnatural
i may be wrong since i don't know the exact laws of islamic countries

When a country is 100% Muslim due to the fact that they'll kill you if you aren't, I think it's a safe assumption that religion runs deep in their government.

The Bible isn't kind to gays either, but that falls in line with the whole argument that Christianity is steadily evolving along with the world. For example, Pope Francis openly stated that gays and transsexuals need to be accepted within the church last year. To my knowledge, you don't see this sort of outreach and pressure for change by Muslim leaders.

I pretty much never get involved with things outside of the Graphics section, especially when they're turned into this **** show, but I really can't help it anymore. As someone who knows someone who died, I'm just saying it's pathetic to see how this turned into an argument over religion and terrorism. Of course it's relevant, but are you serious?

We are, because hashtags and snapchat filters don't move anywhere towards the root of the problem. Would you rather your friend be honored like this for 2 weeks before the media moves onto another attack later, or would you rather people discuss ways to prevent this sort of thing from happening to more innocent people like your friend in the future? Even if people disagree, it's imperative that these kinds of debates among people are had in response to such an event.

Prayers and good vibes don't solve problems.

it's truly pathetic how this thread, about a terrorist attack, has turned into an actual insightful discussion about the terrorist attack - why aren't these mongrels just saying "i'm so sad #mycondolences?" it's almost as if they have brains and are capable of having a discussion beyond hashtags and meme pics

please stop having an on-topic discussion about this thread because i'm allowing it to hurt my feelings
(side note: knowing someone in the attack doesn't validate you to try and negate other people's thoughts or opinions, it's not some ribbon you can wear around you neck)

There's a direct correlation because their lack of education is what allows Islam to be so overbearing. I have a lot of Muslim friends and many are intelligent people. The common denominator between them is that they realize Islam is a bit ridiculous in 2017. That's what happens when you get a view of the developed through the Internet. Not all Muslims have that luxury though. There are some countries in the Middle East that are still poorly developed, and many of them were countries listed on the temporary ban list.

I guess I can alone speak for myself as I grew up in Europe. Every single Muslim I know is educated (more or less) and never had any radical thoughts. Though I agree that the poverty causes a lack of education however the thing that makes "Islam to be so overbearing" are the political leaders who abuse the religion to retain their position. If they would follow the Islam they would help eachother instead of killing eachother/not supporting eachother against IS. Just take a look at Assad, prime example of the hypocritical Muslim nowadays.

You can't differentiate them and that's why the proposed ban is so broad. The upside is that it's a blanket solution to having extremists enter the country and the downside is that we get less migrants. One is obviously more important to us than the other, as it very well should be. The US is not in an any type of migrant shortage crisis, but there is hysteria worldwide about terrorism.

I can understand that banning countries which are hotspots of IS fights is supposed to help. And I doubt that those 6 countries have a major effect on the tourism etc. but this might cause more hate towards the US. American Muslims might turn into "homegrown" terrorists. And what about the refugees? It's not really Americas responsibility to take care of foreign people however they took a part in causing those problems if we're honest.
I am not against the ban at all, I perhaps think that it should be adjusted somehow which is the hard part to manage.

Japan is one of the most developed countries in the world and has one of the strictest immigration policies. They aren't crucified for it, and they shouldn't be. Same with Austria. Austria is so fed up with immigration that they're offering migrants cash bonuses to leave their country. These are two of the highest-ranking countries on the Global Peace Index, too.

Many countries use(d) to pay migrants to leave their country, Germany did that with refugees aswell ago roughly 20 years. I feel likethe main reason why people rage is because Trump did it - giving the anti Trump movement more arguements against him.

Islam has to go through some type of reform. People scrutinize the US, and other countries, for being "discriminatory" because they don't want these migrants in mass amounts. Real discrimination is what some of the most developed Muslim nations do to gays, women, and apostates though. Many Muslim people have owned up to their responsibility of modernizing and not following the Quran to a tee, but many Muslim nations are still extremely oppressive. How could anyone deny this?

I can't deny this. I wouldn't stone a homosexual human being either even though it's mentioned in the Quran. I think the traditions still influence the Islam to a certain point which wouldn't allow any kind of reform/modernization.

Same here, Muslims aren't common at all in my area of Florida so I only know a few online - being that they're privileged enough to have internet access, they all seem well-educated and I wouldn't be able to judge them as belonging to any particular religion without knowing beforehand. All of the ones I know either don't identify as devout or strict Muslims or they only identify as Muslim to avoid being disowned by their families.

I can't pretend to have any type of statistics on the likelihood of that happening, but the fear of "if we act, they will punish us" is terrorism in itself. Not doing anything at all is allowing ourselves to be terrorized.

I agree, and Western media fanning the flames just so that they can benefit from it is probably the grossest part of the problem.
