How was this different than Fallout 3?

Fallout 3 was much much much more focused around interacting with NPCs, surviving and finding food etc and was much less focused on the combat. Let me give you a quick rough rundown on what i think the main issues of fo4 is compared to others
Angry joe actually did a pretty good summary of what fallout4 npc interaction lacked in. For npc interactions the options are yes no positive negative and you don't know what the tone of voice is until you click it. Unilike in every other fallout game where they state everything that you will say and its pretty clear about the tone, so if you want to piss off a guy then you click the sarcastic looking dialogue. You dont get that in fo4
Combat is much more focused in fo4 compared to fo3. This is shown with weapon customizations out the ass really and how much time they spent on making sure guns work feel good unlike in fonv and fo3 where you cant hit a target from 100 meters thanks to god awful accuracy (even with 100 small guns). It also shows how in vats its no longer "cheating" because it slows down time instead of stopping time completely.
Fallout4 also very much lacks the whole scavange to survive type deal. In other fallouts you had to worry about items for selling, items for repairs, items for armor, what weapons to use etc. this is mostly because in other fallouts you had to maintain your gear. So stuff like the enclave powerarmor would be something you put on only for combat that you know will happen cause enclave armor is very rare and to repair it you need enclave armor. In fallout4 you dont need to worry about that, since there is no gear deterioration. So if you decide not to start building stuff, its so much easier to survive compared to other fallouts.
