i use to play a game that had a chat room type thing similar to this idea and the way they dealt with spam and rude users was by allowing the other users to ban someone from the chat room for x amount of time. I think it needed like 7 ban votes to go through since it was less than 50 people in the chat room/game lounge.  

I don't see the usefulness in a feature like this. The failure of iEra's Global chat proves it. We don't need it.

I feel as though this would inspire a lot of hatred. Like on Era, they already have the local messaging system, what would they possibly want to say in the global one that they wouldn't say in the local one. If the posts on these forums are any example, then this is definitely not something that would be used positively.

While an entirely different game a good example to use is Clash of Clans. The world chat has no use and is largely forgotten by the time you start getting into the game. It's also riddled with immature 12 year olds who seem to think their swearing makes them look cool...

Eras global chat isn't global at all. The reason global chat failed is it was pointless and expensive. Why would you want to make a chat room with friends (who all have to be online) when instead you could invite them over to your house and talk there and its free. You can't do that with other people on different servers. Instead the only way to contact them is by PM. This universal chat would allow people from different servers to come together in a chat room and chat as if it was just like you were at someone else house. Also seeing how highly sociable graal is, it would be used a lot.

that's why theres private chat rooms. Or there could be multiple public chat rooms with a limited amount of people per room/  

I posted an idea I had on the iEra subforum about a "PM channel system" a while back.

Was hoping it could be used to cut PM spam especially during basing and such.

Thinking off of eras "global chat" that was a utter failure and waste of time. What if instead of having the chat all for era, but instead make it universal chat where anyone from any server can communicate with one another. There would be a public chat room, then game specific chat rooms, and private chat rooms. I think this would be neat

I would like a private chat room with friends from other guilds and stuff, just because it would make things a lot easier.
