Yeah I hadn't noticed initially (and had gotten it from the official site myself) but there were some weird things going on that had gotten past the ol' virus definitions, hitching a ride on the download. I only became aware when some one else mentioned it to me.

Been using Paint.net for about 9 years and I haven't had any problems. Not sure what you're on about.  

I think there should be a progress thread similar to the one used in christmas.

ditto, always download from official sites. Sometimes programs are listed in wikipedia, and they give the official site. Always google "Is 'x' program safe?"
