@OP A friend of mine all through high-school was legally disowned by her family because she told them she was pansexual when she was 20, and was dedicated to her current polygamy family (and still is in the same one this day!).

It really devastated her in a way that's difficult to describe with just text. She had looked for her parents approval her whole life, since her sisters excelled so greatly around her while, much like me, she was always stuck to a computer for what she wanted to get in to.

It took her a few years, and quite the handful of sobbing phonecalls. But she's a very strong woman now, and is happy with what had happened regardless of the hardships she had to endure.


TL;DR- You'll make it through, and you'll feel more like yourself in the end because of it. ..At least, a friend of mine did.

Yea, totally not trashing your decision OP but this is definitely a part of the reason your mom is so upset. I understand that it's not something easy to tell her in person. But honestly, you can't write this off as some small quirk, being homosexual makes for a huge change in lifestyle (especially to people your mom's age). So its incredibly shocking to her to find out from Facebook that her son is gay.

If you haven't already, it may do you good to apologize to her. Obviously not for being gay, but for not telling her before you posted it on Facebook. Just my humble advice.

Anyway good on you for being confident about who you are.  

LATEST IN FYSEZ DRAMA
When I moved to college last year, my sister took my brothers and I to dinner where, long story short, the next day texted us her and her roommate of 4yrs were actually lesbians together.
That's when I also came out to my brothers, since my sister did.

Turns out my brother, whom I legitimately hate (I strive to be nothing like him because he's a douchebag af), told my mom the day after.
So she's already known I was gay since like October last year I guess.

Now my mom's mad at my sister because my mom is blaming her for "pushing me to come out on Facebook" (which isn't true at all, I didn't speak to my sister) and now my sister is angry with my brother because he outed her to my parents like he apparently did to me.

This whole thing is a huge mess, and I felt typing this out would relieve me a little bit like talking about how it's making me feel.
