In this case, it's mostly about respect.

I fully respect them, don't get me wrong here. I'm at a very very liberal college right now, so to me it just gets crazy when I meet people who I have to remember to refer to as "it" or "ze" or something like that. While people in that community may have seen this prevalence before, many other people have not, and it will take time for people to get this stuff right. I frankly don't see much of a difference in this case specifically between transgender and transgendered person, and I still go out of my way to acknowledge this about people, so I don't see how someone can even get as offended as they do about this slight nuance.

How is that treating them like everyone else? If they want to be called that, then that's fine, but if someone else who is transgender doesn't, then you in fact aren't treating them like everyone else by calling someone what they want, but not someone else.

Because I'm not going to go out of my way to change my grammar every time I refer to someone who is transgender. Transgender is just another gender, like male or female. There's no reason to talk about them differently when they're equal.

I don't think anyone here believes that you or anyone else on this thread disrespects them, it's just about how they like to be called themselves. It's their way of being unique, while still showing they're just like everyone else.

Actually, we get treated less than equal by a lot of people, so it's nice when people, "go out of their way" to change one small, simple thing, that goes a long way respect wise. But no, I apologize for getting respect becoming such an inconvenience for you!

I'm sorry, I didn't realise.

But just because I won't refer to male/female and transgender differently doesn't mean I don't respect you because I do. I just think that it can be used whichever way because it can be used as either an adjective or a noun and isn't offensive. If you could explain how it's offensive other than just saying it's rude or disrespectful then maybe you could change my mind.

Inequality exits because some of you people create stupid complexes.

When you realize everyone gets **** for "being different" or "being normal" then you realize how pointless it is to try and support either side.

Well, the best way I can explain is this:
When someone says, "a transgender", it feels like we're being spoken about as an object, instead of a living, breathing human being . The person who is saying it may not mean it that way, but it feels as if they do. So, the easiest way to avoid someone taking offense to it is by changing the way you say it.

We've reached this weird paradox when it comes to social issues where it's now literally frowned upon to be a cisgender, Caucasian male. Like, you actually have to learn to deal with being told that you're a privileged piece of trash that can never understand how someone else feels. You have to accept that people are allowed to **** all over your race, without it being racist, because the race you were born into just happens to have done so well throughout history. Some of these people are resorting to hating themselves? I don't even understand it.

I thought maybe I was just playing the victim for a while, then I saw that Bill Maher episode from a few days ago:

Well, is that any more of a joke than the biggest issue for transgenders being confusion about which bathroom they can use? If that's modern-day oppression then we've come a pretty long way...

It's a noun though. You would say "a man", you would say "a woman" so there is no reason you wouldn't say "a transgender". I don't understand how you can interpret it to be offensive when there's clearly nothing meant by it.

I do agree with you. There's this one girl at my school that calls the school racist because they give her rice with her lunch (not even joking, she does it every single day and it's annoying). Even if she just does it as a joke, it just goes to show how socially acceptable it is for people to call everything that a white person does "racist".

The transgender bathroom problem is silly I suppose, but then again if that's one of the main issues then I think we have come a long way (compare that current issue to ten years ago when transgenders couldn't get married).
