this isn't really motivation but instead of going to the cafeteria for lunch, I go to the library to finish some homework

Studying with a couple of friends always got me more motivated. Then you can discuss the interesting readings you (probably) have. Try to find a couple of friends that are also struggling with their motivation, or is sick of the stress of procrastinating, and ask them if they would be interested in coming together after school to do homework. Remember to take good breaks and always keep a bottle of water nearby - it boosts my concentration, so that I can focus over a longer span. My best friend and I always did our homework together in High School, and I know for sure that I wouldn't have gotten the grades I did without his help and company, and we both had way more fun studying together than we would have had if we studied alone. We also boosted each others confidence in the subject where we didn't do so well in, and if one of us was struggling with understanding something major in the readings, we would help each other out to try and figure it out together. |

depends on how you work I tried balancing myself by turning on a nes and playing for a certain amount of time then doing work for that same amount of time. It might work for you but I ended up playing the legend of zelda all night and failing an assignment LOL |

My checklist for eliminating procrastination/getting motivation: 1a. (optional) Clean your room. I can't stand working (or being) in a messy room, and find it really pulls down my level of productivity. 1b. (COMPULSORY) Download Self Control (Mac) or Cold Turkey (PC). Regardless if your problem is FaceBook, GraalOnline, Graalians, Twitter, these will block websites for however long you choose. 1c. Play a game. An actual game, ie not graal ie Call of Duty, Just Dance, Animal Crossing. But don't do it in your study space. Your study space is for studying. Do this for ~10 minutes, but no longer than 25 or you'll get too absorbed. Forget about your school work 2. Go for a walk. Outside. Along the streets. More than 5 minutes. I walk for 5-20 minutes, depending on how I feel. Bring music, or just listen to the birds, but don't bring study podcasts or anything of the sort. 3. Have a shower. A short one though, preferably as cold as possible without freezing. Get dressed in study clothes, clothes that you use to study. Not pyjamas, not sports gear (I'm guilty of this). 4. Set your SelfControl or Cold Turkey timer and websites. 5. Say, "**** yeah, I can do this" 6. Do whatever made you do this list. This is all about detaching yourself from your study environment and reconnecting in a way that should define the lines between your study mode and relaxing mode. Bonus: Music to listen to: Try classical or ambient beat music. I like lounge music like this. Don't listen to music with words. |

The RS grind has made me come to really appreciate the xp gains life, I see homework as being experience gains towards reaching 99/99 science, after that I am free to login to RS and bury all my money away and thus my whole day is filled with XP gains and I am quite happy. If I skip the science skilling I feel guilty and won't play RS until I do it. |

Imagine cleaning toilets or working at another dead end job, because you didn't aspire for greatness. Don't want that? Get to work.

Vicipower is correct; you need to set yourself long term goals. Goals that a much more ambitious than finishing the year by putting the least amount of effort possible. Figure out what you want to do with your degree and work towards it. A degree is not an end goal but the means to an end. It's difficult to put motivation in school if you don't vision how it will advantage you in life. Think about where you want to be in 10, 20 or even 30 years. Now think about how you plan on getting there, what diplomas you will need, who you will have to impress. No ambition is too small if you put in the hard work. You will find it much easier to do your homework with such goals. |
