You can just make the spar rooms their own server and going through the door changes the server you're on. With towers being incorporated into the overworld, there would be caveats doing the same for them.

but when u are switching the server, doesn't that going to take at least 10 seconds? Just walking through a wrong door and you have to waste 20 seconds to come back.
that's how long it took to switch from idev to fb server and we are talking about 2012. less than 2000 players active both fb and idev combined.

I don't see why switching servers that use the same resources should cause substantial load times if the client is caching resources properly. Add to that you have fewer resources for spar, and you can keep the user busy during the load time with something like walking through a long hallway or fighting a practice spar against an AI.

Also, it doesn't need to be a different server. This is basically a poor man's multithreading solution that can be implemented when you don't have the resources to actually implement multithreading within the server's code base (i.e. have the OS or network do it for you), or you intend on adding multithreading capabilities to the code but use this kind of solution as a stop-gap measure.

And, of course, nobody who visits this forum can implement anything like that because they don't have access to the client and server code.

early 2012. 1500 on idev, 200 on fb during the day. 1200 on idev, 50 on fb during the night.
maybe these numbers may have been increased in late 12.

Classic is dying.

That's what it seems like to me aswell, I don't see the average 3000 players anymore,
I know they got school and all, but I don't see 3k online late into the day either. O.o

as if graal devs are advanced enough to incorporate such alien technology..

As far as I know, they are working on slapping instances in many areas that are often crowded. That's a pretty good improvement based on the limitations of the game engine, that I know of.

Server switching didn't exist when I was dev, and I've never had any control over server administration (which would be required to use a second server) or the programming of the client (which would be required for the timing concerns). Ownership wouldn't hand out that power lightly, and I wouldn't do it unless I was paid. I wouldn't mind playing around with scripts or refining them from time to time though.
