Is there a thread on here to educate people on what causes lag/delay? People in Japan would have more delay because they are physically farther from the server than a U.S. player. There are many more routers between the server and a US player than between the server and a Japanese player. Transferring data between each of these routers takes between 5 and 40 ms (or more) and this time adds up. That is only for sending data in one direction, to or from the server. Each person is having to receive data about what the 10 or more people in the room are doing at the same time.

At best you have very few people in the room. In old graal we used UDP data transfer which makes a direct connection between your computer and everyone else in the room with you. You send the data back in forth without verifying that it reaches it's destination, which is very fast, but some packets may never reach their destination causing your opponent to look like they're skipping.

Now that graal uses TCP, all data is sent until you get a receipt back stating the data was received. You don't make a connection with each user in the room, you only create a connection with the graal server, so now your data has to go all the way to the graal server then back to the other person, on top of being verified that it actually reaches it's destination which is much slower when there are few people in the room.

People ask admins to fix the lag. The best they could do with their access is delete npcs from your account or possibly make a less laggy system script if it is even laggy in the first place. The majority of lag is cause by people logging in on a CELL PHONE, far inferior to a computer on a cable connection, and they're connecting from all over the world to one (or two?) servers in the US. If the Europeans had a server close to them they'd finally get to play without lag. Anyway, the person who can make the biggest change in lag is Stefan who scripts the game and can add more than one server or change the server's location.

I might be a little off in my explanation, Thallen knows this better than I do.

I have tried to explain these things to them an obscene amount of times but they have minds of their own. Everything you just posted is 100% accurate though.

To my knowledge, GST registration opens on the Monday before the GST at the very latest. It's still early on Monday, but I also believe it's usually opened by now. That means there will probably be no GST this month. You can safely assume that December will be a very busy month for Graal and for everyone IRL, so don't count on it being hosted then either. Just assume that the 2013 Fall GST will not happen, and look forward to the Winter GST in January.

Everything I just said could be 100% inaccurate but it's probably your best bet as of right now.

Every other GST (except last one) was on first weekend of month ~> Thallen says "GST is always on the last weekend of the month" ~> GST's are now on the last weekend of the month

Every other GST, registration only opened the day before the event ~> Thallen says registration always opens on Monday ~> Registration opens on Monday.

It’s just happens that rufus is always in the middle of the controversy. I SMELL A RIOT!!!  

I had thought they might open Nexus this weekend for a Black friday type deal,but I can't really see them opening it and running the gst both in the same weekend.

The reason is, when someone goes wrong, staff don't explain why. They need more transparency and should stop making people guess or form conspiracy theories.  

As a former 10x GST champ, and still US member, I can say GST overrated, I hope some scrub team wins.

^Yes, I'm not saying admins should always have to explain themselves but a little info here and there doesn't hurt. And I don't get why somethings get put into the news feed while other seemingly importantish things do not. For example: I do realize there are people in towers 24/7 and word travels fast in graal but there was no news announcement of the flag hp changes at the towers when the changes where done. IMO there have been other subtle or small changes over the last year some where probably so small they didn't warrant mentioning in the news while others could have been.

I guess Dusty did start a minor tweak ect. feed in the future improve section that he updates with the minor changes he does which is a good step in the right direction.

Thats exactly why I'm sure you got a lot of hate or flack. Not to mention the fact that some well known admins have been on those teams not to mention any names cough Rufus. Which is why a lot of people moan,bitch,and complain when US or Alumni or whatever your calling yourselves these days win gst after gst. I know it's not really fair for them but to avoid at least some of the controversy and complaints I don't think admins should be allowed to compete in the gst's. I would think they would get tired of the "Rufus warped that guy out to give his team an advantage" global messages and other similar spam protesting.

This is the way I look at it. If you go and look at the rules for any various promotions or contests anywhere in every single one members of the company conducting it or thier families are not eligible or allowed to win the prize(s). As an admin whether on their admin account or normal account your still recognized as an representative of the staff. And as a member of the staff your part of the group that is putting on or holding the event. I.E. you shouldn't be allowed to compete. So why shouldn't this hold true for graal? I feel the same way about admins on player accounts participating in events....cough axel. I realize they aren't using their powers to gain an advantage but it just doesn't seem right to me.

I'm sure you will now start criticizing my logic.
