I like this, but I think the half heart state should have the gem cracked in half completely to make it more noticeable. Other then that, I enjoy how this looks, could maybe make the message bubbles more interesting though.

I agree with Mithos
I think if you just took away the right side of the original crack and gave the inner bit some depth to show the width of the crystal it would look pretty neato
edit: top crack looks kinda weird, just not very natural imo.
