The Artsy Graal Stuff by David K?

*Will proofread at later date*

Hello
Graalians,

I've been with Graal for 13 years now, off and on, and believe the game has brought me into the world of arts and programming. I love to create.
(Note: I can, but usually choose not to do pixel art.)

I will be posting the past first going to the present, letting me update the thread as I go. So keep an eye out. I'll also send my past work incase anyone should like to use any of it.

I've also noticed I can't remember which graphics I've actually done so some I just won't post.

Thanks,
David K?

P.S.: I love developing, but please don't ask me, I don't have gold anymore and I am not interested in PC servers.

P.P.S.: Everything inside of the zips are everything I've worked on for the server. Levels and everything. Feel free to use them with credit.

2004 - Zippys Soda Factory

17 Attachment(s)

My name changed from Spyboy0 to Devil_Lord2 (My first paid account) to Devil Lord, Dark Jester, and Cute Lil Baby.

In 2002 I was working in the Graal Police staff section on the Classic server Auroria. Trunks sent me the server files but I never felt the need to save them. (That was stupid)

I believe my hirer and slightly mentor's name was Odin (GP) under the server owner Nils$. He fixed my house links in my first house (which was uploaded to the server but so horrible compared to today's levels).

Being 13 years old at the time I didn't know much about X and Y axis and started trying to do graphics in Paint and eventually moved to Paint Shop Pro 7. (I learned basic HTML and some GS1). My clock that I made took maybe 100 lines of code, and someone showed me a 5-10 lines of code clock. My mind was blown at the time. (Some of it reopened in 2008 to place Unholy Nation as well as many levels deleted.)

Many of the images inside are only edited and not worth showing.
I will show a few to get an idea of how crappy they are.

2004
Shaded Legends
Zippys Soda Factory

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...aal/graal2.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../Graal/laa.png

In 2004 I was 14 years old, just beginning to learn GS1 a little better. I had a great idea for Shaded Legends and wanted to create a soda factory for people to serve the soda. (I don't know if I did or did not do the sodacans GS1). The factory was for show, but you'd have to actually do things to serve the soda. Some of the pay going to the player performing the job.

I remember Jatte Kult, and I think I was in it, but I'm not positive. I would have also gone by Lil Gangsta but the text seems different..

I've always had a different style to my levels so they might look strange to a lot of people.

Eventually I was hired for Events Team. My first events created were two pot races, ice and lava. Also created some edited/created some graphics but still not too wonderful.

2005
Shaded Legends
LAT
For a week

Eventually in February of 2005 someone on the staff team saw my Soda Factory and hired me as a LAT. I was told to create a castle, which I did and I believe I did it well. (My levels are usually consistent outside to inside)

It was liked but never used. I cannot open them and have no images to show, so I don't recall what it looked like. But I know I made a map room.

Only one week later I fell under pressure of having no work. I was sincerely scared. No one had told me to do anything else and I decided to quit being LAT since I thought the next job would be too hard for me. (I was very shy)

Events Team
Again

In 2005, still apart of the Shaded Legends Events Team, "Hold The Briefcase" came out and I worked on my own version for that as well. That was my most favorite event. (Can be found under Events New in Events.zip)

Eventually I was promoted to Co-Events Admin and then Events Admin.
However, a few weeks? after Babylon came out I quit and joined Babylon.
I'll always miss you Hrr4, Loakey, Cujo, Matrix, and Deathic_s1.

I had my house uploaded on Babylon in a shorter version. It used to have 50 or so levels. It contained little scenes of mars people walking around and cars driving. Eventually I knew the server inside out and became a GP. I was the last person on the server to obtain a "Kuro". An extremely unique pet system that I truly loved and decided to make my own later on in GS2 (will mention later).
By this time I know I started using Paint Shop Pro 7.

I can't say I remember too much about Babylon, except being Chrisz guinea pig and learning a bit more GS1. (In my head) Chrisz ditched me to create Era and never returned or said hi which created a small grudge against Era. He was a great graphic artist and wonderful programmer. I came on Era months later and he said hi and gave me some kind of large gun, but the re-union was over fast. I could have cared less about the server, as I only wanted to rekindle the friendship.

I believe I became ET on this server but I really don't remember.
I get Shaded Legends and Babylon mixed up very often as well as the staff members.

I'm not sure if it was Shaded Legends or Babylon, but I was supposed to make some intro levels. I don't have the original images but they are on one of my class portfolios.

GS2
Quit

GS2 hit in 2005-2006 and messed up everything. The "Kuro" was broken. My house was broken, I was pissed, rage-quit for a while.

I met Stella, Yuna, and Chrisz on Babylon. Stella still plays Graal as well as I believe iClassic but we do not talk. (Some other people are listed inside my house).

Eventually Doomsday, Bravo, Graal2003 (I think that was the RPG server), Klaria (before Valklaria) were played but not too much. I don't remember any of the other server names I've played up to this point.

At this point the positions I've held were:
Lat : Once
GP : Three times
FAQ -Cadet- : Once
FAQ : Three times
PRT : Once
ET : Five times
ET Admin : Once
Asst ET Admin : Once

My favorite thing you've posted so far is probably the second image (ZippysSoda01.png). It's not quite the tiling style I'm used to, but it's definitely "art" and I think it's kind of cool!

Hope to see more stuff soon :)

Zodiac

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps6d317f43.png
Best weapon in the game at the time. Lent it to him.
Never got it back though, he lent it to someone else.

At the end of high school some time I started playing Graal again. (Maybe after High School before College). I was looking to become staff on Zodiac, possibly applying for the graphics team.

While playing Zodiac, I noticed, in my opinion, a crappy cloud-city.

I don't remember too much about Zodiac anymore either, but there were snowmen somewhere and I thought it would be neat to make them a little more 3D, still learning photoshop. The shadow I messed up seeing as it was half out of the image lines... It looks neater than the original I think, but still not too great.

I created a fireball, I think for a dragon, but honestly I'm not really sure and could have just done it out of boredom. I tried to fix that up to be 3D but never finished the project.

I edited the earth staff to be the Aeromancer staff because I thought it was weird Aeromancer items were all green but the staff was purple. The staff was uploaded to the server without crediting me, and without making it for Aeromancers. After trying to get in contact with the server staff and not making any progress, I quit Zodiac once again seeing my work stolen. (When I sent it in I told them it was only for the earth staff and was to be used as such, the info was disregarded.)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps8252d3bf.png
Pyth was a good friend throughout the game.

My memory started getting worse by this time, I don't remember anyone at all from Zodiac.

2008
TwilightTown

I'm not honestly sure how I was put or found this server. I think a friend contacted me letting me know he was making a server and asked if I wanted to create some levels for him. Long story short, I was hired as a lat then fired a few days later by the LAT Admin. The LAT Admin was a 12 year old (I believe girl) who was not very friendly and didn't like that I 'fixed' her levels up. I believe the owner rehired me, and I was quickly fired again by her.

I was talked to by the owner and offered the LAT Admin position
, which I turned down not wanting to take her job. (As well as believing the server was not going anywhere). I want to say this is where I started making 3D looking levels.. but seeing my past work, it really wasn't.

Before I was fired however, I started working on an apartment complex. Blueprint was finished, and I think I did a few levels. Once again I can't see what I've done but the levels are inside the zip.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...l/6fdc3c6b.png

2008
The Underworld

On this server that we were starting up, Account: Thorr and Nick: silent, someone named Reno, and I were going to make a demons vs angels type server. It was going to be a RTS type game. We had a graphics person better than I doing the tileset. For some reason I created a fire and log. (many versions) and I made a HUD type blueprint. There are 6 levels but I can't see or post them. (They are in the zip). I guess that project failed because I don't remember anything else about it. I think the server owner disappeared.

The grass tiles were not created by me. I believe I quit Graal after this project until 2011. (I think when I received my associates degree, I switched from Computer Science to Fine Arts at the time of rejoining)

ROFL
Every time I talk to Stella, I mention "Cute Lil Baby" because that's one of the first names I remember from when I actively shifted over to Babylon. Kind of amazed that you are still around. I was "Inphektid" that long ago.

And wowzers @ hrr4 being in the Shaded Legend screenshot, I played SL before I ever played Babylon and that dude was legit the best bomb PKer ever.

iClassic
I'm back!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psf40736cd.png
Brought UnLoved back
from Babylon.

Finding iClassic as an Application blew my mind. After quitting, again, for two years, my favorite developing game came to a device I always have on me. My goal was to become staff and teach everyone what I've learned. I still did the latter but becoming a member of the staff team never happened. I have my own theories of why not, but I'm honestly not sure.

Reamzonia/Astram
Starting my iClassic Portfolio

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psaac13472.png
My fix to someone's building. See images.

I asked around and found a PC server I could try developing on. Finding out they created an online tile editor, I was seriously happy. I had just started University of Maryland, Baltimore County, with my Associates of Fine Arts under the Graphic Design track, and wanted to get my hands dirty in development once again.

The first server I found was with Astram, whom ignored me for 1-2 days before asking me his favorite color, yellow I believe he said, then adding me to the levels team. I really only wanted them to add my graphics, I was working on a new sword template. He completely ignored all my requests but I continued to work as a LAT on the server.

Eventually a huge amount of lats were fired except for myself and another. The guy I was working with, after constantly telling him not to, placed tiles over my temporary tile-sheet while I was working.

After all the other staff members were fired, without justification, cause, or warning, and this guy constantly messing things up.. I decided it was time to leave that server. (I was there for about a week, and that is where my grudge against Astram comes from, treating his staff members like crap.)

Dev Twaina
5 minutes later

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ps2b4e6398.png
New style, it was pretty neat.

I don't quite remember this one, all I know was five minutes after quitting Reamzonia, Callimuc found me and got me hired. The level editor was different, as well as the tileset. Honestly, it was amazing. I loved it there.

The only downside was Callimuc was usually busy and couldn't reupload my graphics until days later. By this time I believe I was working on Type1 tileset doing my own thing making Super Mario World. Cat told me about her friend ZeroG and eventually I left Dev Twaina for ZeroG's server, Frontier. I had already started Super David K? World on Dev Twaina, which ZeroG had already given me a gravity script for before I had left.

At this point I've notified an iClassic staff with 88 images of tile errors to help improve their server. Reported a few hackers. Suggested a bunch of ideas that weren't listened to but easy to do. All that good stuff.
I believe I sent it to the email also. (Whether or not the listened I don't know, they didn't seem interested)

Out of all the servers, this one looked the most complete. It was a pure quest server, the only staff member I saw was ZeroG, and I believe he was happy I came along. As was I for coming. He was busy, but still had the time to upload... It didn't stop there, I was able to work on my own graphics, my own projects, while helping him with his own projects and graphics.

I was ready to try GS2. (Had to do a hell of a lot of surveys to get Gold).
As young as he was, he could, and most likely still can, program better than I at most math related things (there were few things I could do that he couldn't). Anyway, he is the one who brought me back up to speed with GS2 and I started getting use to it like GS1. Having learned Visual Basics and C Programming, I kind of got the gist of it.

The Super David K? Adventures!

This was going to be in a TV in the
insane asylum quest for fun.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psf9221094.jpg

Inside The Super David K? Adventures house.

I started on Frontier with The Super David K? Adventures. ZeroG created the baddy and and missile script. I edited images and made a tileset and a few baddies. (I called them shroomies when I made them.) No levels were saved since I could not work on Graal Editor. I was working on an underground level as well as a 2D side-scrolling house level. They are in the simple tileset I've created. I constantly update my tilesets to keep them organized and simple. In development, I asked ZeroG to hire a few people who wanted to help make more levels. They ended up not doing anything. After creating 7 levels for The Super David K? Adventures, I was ready for something new.

So, I started on the Insane Asylum. I idolize people such as The Mad Hatter and The Joker very much. What I wanted to do was create an Insane Asylum where you walked in, and somehow they thought you were a patient there. The whole storyline was to escape the insane asylum and have a wide variety of things to do. This is where ZeroG created Mandy and I wanted to see the script. Slowly ZeroG helped me refresh my memory of GS1 and caught me up on the basics of GS2.

Seriously, for the most part, the insane asylum was only one room. I spent 2-4 months in one room. I did make an outside, and spent a few days creating three other levels for it, but that was my private room. It was nothing but testing, and Mandy, my assistant NPC. ZeroG also came to visit often too.
Really the only thing I did besides a little GS2 was the graphics.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...8at52114PM.png

Example of a street or bricks from the tile-sheet I've created.
I didn't think of an NPC to be used for shading so don't mind the top.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...t90412PM-1.pngTrying out different things for the loony rooms.
You can't really see the detail in the picture.

Sadly I created a bunch of tools to use in the hospital ward, but everything seems to be missing. I can't find the original hard drive. Also, I did some things in Testbed but they deleted everything so I lost most of my programming. (My hard-drive was wiped three times and I got a new computer last year due to the lemon law. It had more problems than only the hard drive.)

*My first pet looked really weird and I did not like it. Fixed the next three.

While working on the Insane Asylum I also extremely badly wanted to recreate a pet system, like the "Kuro", as I knew it. Not a transformation system. I first started with 3D graphics, which didn't come out so well transparency wise... I worked on it slightly on Shaded Legends but not too much. My lack of math stopped me from completing it, as well as not being able to figure out the blocking system. ZeroG and Thorr helped me out while working on this project.

The pet basically followed you a set distance you gave it, could walk, could idle, could talk, and you could control it. While controlling it you'd be able to make it talk, attack, and do whatever it could do with commands.

It could also patrol path from point A to B to C to D then back to C to B to A and restart or patrol area which is point A to B to C to D back to A and restart. Eventually I was going to make it attack, fight, and sit. Commands would have replaced the GUI I created for it.

The pet always stays on the server (probably a bad idea) and if you clicked it while online it would say the owners name, or it would say "My owner is offline!". Although the image kept disappearing.. probably because the player was offline and the attribute of the pet was then gone.

I'm waiting to see if I should put my pet system up for grabs.
I would love to see it to be completed.

2011 - The Beach
How romantic!

So, I recalled seeing a moving beach on an old server. I asked around and no one seemed to know what I was talking about or how to reproduce it. (I even asked a few people on the forums). Anyway, Callimuc handed me the hammer script I believe that came from Dusty. From that I figured out how to use updateboard and level.tiles. It could probably be done better with images, but I made a beach the way I semi remembered it. The SL version I swear had Seashells. Thank you Killa Be for letting me use Bensor's server.

I give to you "The Beach". Essentially I took what I've learned from the hammer script after creating a bunch of other NPCs with it and created 8? different levels. I grabbed the arrays in Graal Editor, having to use my mothers computer, and kept sending them to my self via skype. It was a long and tedious process. The end results could have looks nicer and smoother, but I wouldn't recommend many levels using this tactic. It can get laggy.

Once again, the beach level and scripts are inside the zip.

Blood gfx (PSD) and Gnome Head Edit by David K?
Inside tile gfx and programming by ZeroG

While I was playing Frontier, ZeroG asked if I wanted to help him create graphics for his Noob quest. As I learned GS2 I eventually started helping create his noob quest on the Noob side, while he programmed for the Gnome side. Noob4lyfe.

Scene, ganis, and vents by David K?

His server, as small as the area was, had been the most complete of all of the ones I've been on previously Everything revolved around questing, so I was happy to have been able to help... To finish the gnome/noob storyline I made a shop and a few more images for ZeroG to use. Metal, Matchbox, Powder, a 3D hat, a 3D button and a metal door.

iClassic Hiring
The Jukes

https://sphotos-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/h..._6086647_n.jpg

I hosted a drawing contest on iClassic. 7-8 winners.
Only three picked up their prizes though.
(I had help farming it)

Around this time iClassic announced they were hiring a programmer. When I heard of this I had my doubts but I wanted to at least try and make the team. Knowing ZeroG was very good, I forced him to try also. ZeroG is very friendly but also very shy. He doesn't put himself out there and make him self know, so I do it for him. (There will also be a post dedicated to his stuff.)

The first thing we had to do was create a trigger from one level to react to another level (I think). Whatever it was, it had to do with a quest-line, and I finished it with barely any help. The hirer said it was good but should have been done another way. My reply? "Wut?". (Not my actual reply.)

ZeroG had also submitted and passed. He was then instructed to make a party chat system. I believe he was given three tasks, and he completed them all. The end results being him the winner and being told he did the best out of everyone. But was told they were no longer hiring.

Yeah, I put him through that. I'm sorry ZeroG.
I probably hurt your confidence even more.
Thing was, I knew you could do it.

Testbed
I hate you.

I worked on many other things were deleted on testbed, as well as my computer hard drive wiped on me once again... Second of third time.

I had also created a teleporting gani and animaiton for a staff system on Testbed before it went the first time. (People kept constantly warping to me and bothering me, the system kicked everyone out of my level if I was in it and was set as well as other things. I had also banned some people.)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...l/8fef29cd.png

Anyway, I quit after my stuff was lost. I'll post some of the stuff I was working on. I also had an idea of a 3D server or game type server.

I liked the first image body image better, but at first I wanted a custom body with joints. (I didn't work on lighting or shadows on the first.) I had also made a movement system, but not well. I believe I quit Graal after I lost all my work.

I keep trying to resize the images, they keep blowing back up.

This last one was only for fun.
This is how I made the UnLoved graphics.

That video was amazing, lol. The scripting and ganis on how to get up into the vent was superb. And being inside the vent overall was a unique way of getting to the blocked area. I'd like to see the rest of this quest :0
