Graal
The more staff work for free on graal, the less unixmad will care about us.

I wonder how many people were promised to be paid when doing work for Graal by Unixmand but never were. I don't know how this game doesn't get sued more often.

I see it as a double edge sword. On one side you are providing people with experiences in different fields and creating a grassroots community, on the other its an asshole who only cares bout money.
|
Yeah hone your skills as a developer on this ****ty game so you can move on to a better game and make some real $$$.
|
Start off doing what you do on Graal, develop your talents on the sever for awhile. Move on to something bigger and better later on.
|
Graal isn't an internship. I can't even speak anything here about the truth of this game without posts being deleted, but FYI, there is no reason in the universe why developers should not be making money

Without all the volunteer staff Graal would not have had the support to be able to still be alive. Graal is possibly the longest running MMO online ever. It was originally one of the first MMO's with graphics ever created and populations has increased massively too since the last 5 years. (Well over 1000%). The potential is still very much there as it's always been.
Unfortunately it's lack of focus, direction, appreciation (to staff and players alike), and service from the ownership has kept it from a faster growth imo. Nonetheless I'm proud and happy with how far its come, regardless of what some other respected original players might say. Also many players who don't volunteer their time as staff however take the time to provide detailed suggestions and sharing their ideas helps tremendously to continue to see a progressive development. Personally, I'd like to say thanks to the entire Graal team (current and past) and players for your contributions and support. No one is perfect but continue to strive to do better and it'll just happen. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year! <3 |

I'm not going to doubt that you could develop a game for $50k. However I don't believe you would do better than unixmad, in my honest opinion. Primarily because I think you'd be a challenge to work or communicate effectively/productively with. I would have rather seen Brett running Graal back then. Although he would only say "no" and "shut".. oh of course there'd be the occasional "nini ugly".

I feel like everything you've thrown at me might actually be reflection of yourself. But anyway you're preaching to the choir when you complain to me about what you have contributed to Graal pro bono. My comments about you were made on my direct experiences and observations of your, in my opinion, poor form of socializing. Anyway Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, good day.

Doing better than unixmad is not hard. Working and talking with unixmad without having him harass you or feeling the urge to cuss that **** out is hard, however.

Unixmad threatened me with a lawsuit once...
But the real offence was when Stefan killed me on Kingdoms. Neither of us were in a kingdom, and I couldn't damage him. Rude af. |
NEUROTYPICAL IS EVERYTHING!!

And FYI, I built this game's business, and if I wasn't 14 I would have had my fair share or been using MY CONTENT that was being exclusively sold as the end product to fund MY BANK ACCOUNT, which would have been minimally 50% in a contract—which means that regardless of what you see, I'll say it; I was robbed—which makes this my place. You start coming around my ****ing game and criticizing my abilities as a manager and I'd have you banned. |
Lol oh brother. The fact was in 2001 I had to clean up after you and combative folks just like yourself who don't display the ability to absorb constructive feedback for what it is.

The problem with saying volunteers were leeched off of is the fact that they're volunteers, not employees. They didn't get involved at the level they're at for pay unless they moved far up the ranks.
Additionally, @Antago, you've claimed you can make a better game and such, so considering how you claim this game has made tons, you should probably get to work on making your amazing game to get your scrilla as well. Maybe one day you can buy Unixmad out of the current game. |

If you want to make a new game, and do it in a reasonable amount of time without running up against potential burnout, you need to recruit some people. Doing an online game from scratch, on your own, will take at least 3 years, and that's if you're familiar with the full development stack. Graphics rendering, in particular, can be a pretty gnarly performance suck bottleneck if you have no experience there (Graal's engine kind of takes care of a lot of that for many who have developed scripting on Graal). Anyway, if making your own MMOG is really an idea that you feel passionate about and want to pursue, I'd be willing to contribute. PM me. |
