I personally think that's stupid. While it is a taxi-sort of service, Uber itself is a technology company; an application.
To rule it as entirely a taxi service is ridiculous, in my opinion, and costs people their jobs.

On the other hand, being required to have a taxi license to work for Uber does ensure that the driver doesn't have poor driving health conditions and haven't gotten into any trouble that would prevent them from driving..

Taxi's suck compared to Uber. Instead of complaining that Uber is taking all their business they should work towards providing a better service instead

I just wish Uber - Taxi work together. Hopefully that brings Uber reputation back up and doesn't kill reg cab drivers.
Like shipping companies, FedEx, UPS, DHL working together with USPS to deliver stuff without any delay.

That's the point. It's partially a taxi service, but it's also a technology company. They provide the technology to connect people who want a ride somewhere, and people who want to drive people for money. Therefore, it is partially a technology company and partially a taxi service.
