I'm not too familiar with the world of desktops and you guys seemed to know them a hell of a lot more than I do.

Earlier this week my house was robbed and they stole the computer I used for gaming. So now I'm looking into buying myself a new desktop. My budget will be a little north of $1000-1200 and I'd like it to run all the mainstream games like Arma 3 and DayZ at high settings. Any suggestions would be great, as long as they're not out of my price range. I'd also be willing to build my own desktop if that makes things easier.

Awesome build, thank you! This is so much cheaper than all the other desktops I was considering buying. Is this build able to run all the high-end games decently though? Last time I bought a pc I jumped into it way too quickly and I got a pc hardly able to run DayZ so that was no fun.

Yup. It should run games coming out on the market now at the standard 60fps without having to crank down the settings.

With the extra $200 an i5 4690K, Z97 motherboard, and an aftermarket cooler (e.g. 212 EVO) would be a better use of money OR getting a GTX 980 instead of the 970.

For dayz I dont see a reason he would need more gpu or even cooling, I have a 770 and I run the game at max perfectly fine at 60fps. Really at that point he could probably just get extra games since the build is practically fine for what he is doing.  

I believe I'll just stick with fp4's original build, why spend more when it can already do everything I want, right? Now on to my next question, I need a monitor. Is there any particular moniter that's cheap, yet effecient? I know next to nothing about monitors and it appears just about any one works, but I'd still like to see what's out there.

I prefer smaller monitors :0 Around 24"-27" with as low of a ms response time as I can get. Ill link some in a bit.

...go look at some GTX 980 reviews, you'll see it's not always running 60fps with everything maxed out. I also hope everyone here chokes on a **** and dies, the price for that entire rig is so good. **** Sweden.
