Advice needed for subject selection.
Today I received a letter on what subjects I have been given for this year in school, and unfortunately, my lines have not worked. Long story short, I have to choose between Japanese and another subject called STEMED (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics: Entrepreneurial Design). I have been studying Japanese since Kindergarten and the teacher makes it very enjoyable (we mostly play games but we do learn a lot from them!). I'm doing well in it and the language would be valuable to learn. I'm afraid that if I drop this subject I won't be able to pick Japanese up again next year and will have to continue Latin next year. (I'm getting a bit complicated, but next year I am going to do German, latin/japanese, and Maths Method Foundation). Latin is my best subject but not my favourite. And finally, my volleyball coach is the Japanese teacher and expects me to do Japanese this year. STEMED is a new class that's being introduced this year that focuses on engineering a product and marketing it. This also comes a long with leaning how to code in Objective C, for iOS apps. Again, I'm doing well in science/maths and would most likely enjoy this subject. We'd be using a 3D printer and engineering while learning about economics, both of which I would love to go into for a career. This class is not offered for me next year either. Right now, I'm thinking I'll continue with Japanese but that means I'd be studying three languages (which hasn't been difficult for the last year). As quite a few Graalians are knowledgable on both of these subjects I'd appreciate any advice that could be given to me on them! |

Go with whatever you actually want to do most. If it was me in your shoes, I would cut out a class that I'm not actually going to use in life, be it private or work. Personally I'd ditch German and Latin if I had to choose. Japanese seems to be something you're actually interested in so I'd keep going with it. The math course isn't something I'd pass up, I'd most definitely go for it. edit- just read that the choice is between Japanese and the math course. Personally i'd choose the math route but it's up to what interests you the most. |

Languages are great, but choose what you think will help you and your future career.

go with japanese, my sister is studying that and majoring in it and shes going overseas to japan next year for a year to study there. Also the govt in japan are looking for people who can speak english 24/7, in pretty much every field. Mostly teachers to teach english and translators for the government and private corporations. Could also join the US military and get stationed in Japan since if you can speak Japanese you can get stationed there (But you are apparently an Aussie, so this wont apply to you). TL;DR In Japanese there are an assload of options if you know where to look. |

So you've been studying Japanese since you were a kid? Say no more, take the class. I swear, if I had been taking Spanish since kindergarten I'd probably have an A in the damn class already, but no. |

I'd go with Japanese. World language skills are never a bad thing to have.

Do Japanese, pick up other languages and keep practicing them next year. Become translator or similar job in places like Japan and Korea and laugh as you take in loads of money.

Alright, I suppose I'll continue with Japanese then! Thank you to everyone who answered, I was unsure of what to do before.
