Can I Overclock A FX 6350 With A Stock Cooler?
Its default clock rate is 3.9 ghz, but apparently there's some "turbo" feature that brings it to 4.2 ghz that won't ever kick in. Weird thing is my old cpu always had the turbo on with the stock cooler without issues. To make things more confusing, the temperature readings dont seem to be accurate- it says I idle at like 15 C, which cant be right. BIOS however has the correct temperatures, but I have no way of testing it under load. Is there a safe way to overclock? I'm scared to ruin my CPU. |

TL;DR I'd assume no due to not enough coolants. |

I wouldn't, not on the stock cooler anyway.

Posting results in case someone else does a google search for this... Fans are running at full speed. I overclocked to 4.1 GHZ. A subtle OC, only 5%, but its something. CPUtin gets to 66C while benchmarking(which is a bit high, but you'll likely never hit that temp during gaming). Core temp reports like 54C, thats a different sensor that's often inaccurate. AMD CPUs officially support up to 62C, but a lot of experienced Overclockers tell me anything below 70C is fine. Considering that I don't get anywhere close to 62C while gaming, I should be fine. Overclocking will likely reduce the lifespan of your CPU. But if you're like me and upgrade every few years anyways, you should be fine. As long as you regularly clean the dust out of your heatsink every few months, and have good airflow, it should work fine. |

I would not recommend overclocking it past 3.8 with the stock cooler. I would get a high rated fan or water cooling. But I have mine in a not-so-open space :| |

So 4.2 ghz was stable at load, but not idle, probably because of voltage issues(I had Cool and quiet disabled) but 4.1 ghz and 4.4 ghz turbo is stable |
