Melee spar
Hi, in this thread I will go over most of the flaws in melee spar, and how to fix them. This is to show everyone obvious flaws and for people to add to the list to make these flaws noticed, and hopefully fixed. I know this spar is usually overlooked, but it still contains major problems that nobody listend too.Refer to tl;dr if you're lazy.
Also in comments, please leave a comment of a number that you do not like, and explain.
Flaws-Fixes
1. Spam-This is the biggest problem in zone spar. The trouble is the range of the weapon paired with the amount of times you can attack in a short period of time. Moving anywhere while adjacent in the HUGE attack radius is an instant loss. The attack range is almost double the image length. This would normally be fine, but the lack of knockback will allow the enemy to hit you 1-3 extra times (moving directly away from the attacker) depending on how close you were to the enemy. This is extremely unfair and flawed, as generally the person with the first hit will win any fight as the opponent can not move or will lose 1-3 hits and will result in losing the spar. If you made the hit radius more like classic, which is easily the best spar system, you would attract more classic sparrers and attain a community. By hit radius i mean make the attack range a certain square of area, and add knockback on all hits, allowing the first hitter not to be spammed by hits from the enemy, even when they got around him and hit first.
tl;dr?- Add knockback and lower range for a fair fight
2. Area- The general spar area is much too big. On an ipod, zoomed in, you can only view about a quarter of the area depending on where you are. Along with this, their is the running aspect of where a new player will run around the edges of the area, taking up to a minute+ to hit enough him enough to kill him. Also, every single person i have fought will instinctivly go to the bottom center of spar, and since you walk through eachother, can just run through you walling to kill you.
tl;dr?- make area smaller to be viewed on an ipod screen fairly
3. Characters- Mainly, you can run through eachother like a non pk area. In every other pk area you can not move through other characters. I'm not sure but this seems like an easy fix for scripting, and is key for pking/sparring up close. For me, if your on the bottom wall, running through the enemy and hitting on both sides seems unrealistic and unfair.
tl;dr?- You can run through people like ghosts
4. Practice spar- Ok, this is essential. About 1/4 of the players i have sparred have no idea on what they are doing at all, and many classic/era sparrers quit as they have no idea what their doing and are quickly beaten by more expierenced players.
tl;dr?- New spar is confusing for new players and they need practice
5. Weapons- Spar should be based off of skill. Not spam, not whoever is the richest. I understand the neccesity of price ranges, and damage diffrences. The main thing is the range of these weapons. The range diffrence is very unfair and overpowered; compare the starter knife and the lightsabre. Almost 5/6 of the playercount have a sabre, so anyone starting to spar with a starter knife is out of luck. It takes 5-6 hits to win with a saber, 7-8 hits with murusama, and 9-10 with starter knife. Also, sabre & murumasa range is about double starter knife distance, so if a new player and you stood adjacently, and clicked the button at the same time, you would win everytime. Also, if you moved back a step or two, you would win without the enemy ever touching you. This is extremely flawed, and would make spar fair and fun if you equalized the range of all melees.
tl;dr?- make weapons range the same for fairness, completely overpowered.
6. Seperate melee scores from gun spar scores- I know this won't take priority, but it would be nice. I hate how i can't gun spar in case of ruining my ongoing streak, and it would be a nice feature.
tl;dr?- its two sentences...
This is just a list i have had in my head for a while, hopefully staff will add it to to-do list. If you liked, and/or want to give more feedback please leave a comment.
Thanks,
