Do you read dialogue in games?
I've been playing Chrono Trigger for the first time over the last few days and I noticed that most of the NPC dialogue changes as you progress through your story. Similarly, when I last played Final Fantasy VII and even Pokemon Black I actively read every text, from the story itself, to the individual characters around the world. I didn't do this at all when I was younger. I mainly just skipped text (even related to the main storyline) and continued with the gameplay side of things. As I grow older I feel that the story is much more important to my playing of games, but I'm not sure if I'm alone in this. Classic has been the first time on Graal that I've seen people take an active interest in the text that is spread around the world. Players seem to know what an NPC character says, what's on a bookshelf, and I often see people trying to piece together information from this. Most people on Classic don't even seem to be able to read the news correctly however, so I was wondering how present it is within the community. I understand the poll is a little poor because it doesn't capture different styles or game genres. Take it as your general approach to games. |

I sort of agree. I only read dialogues (or listen, Aka Halo Series) only if I'm interested in the game. For example - on classic I skip most of the dialogues but now Im starting to read them because I'm starting to get interested in it. (Never really tried Zelda related games.) But yeah, they're very important for games.

I wish Graal had more dialouge and hidden secrets.

Most people I know skip these, but I don't. It's important to the storyline.

If I see a wall of text I usually don't really want to read it. But if it is like Pokemon and Graal text, and they come in segments, my mind is like oh it's shorter, I should read it.

I usually read dialogue a lot, and sometimes go back to reread it. You never know when that antisocial NPC no one talks to can give you some of the most important tips. The only time I try not to read all the dialogue is if it's one of those games where what you do/say impacts the game because if you talk to the wrong person at the wrong time it could be bad for whatever happens later on.

Not in graal. I have never seen a good graal dialogue. Most of the time it is too embarrassing to read.

eh... I remember I used to skip it in Pokemon so I could just play the damn game. It's kind of equivalent to watching cutscenes, sometimes I just skip it if I don't really care about the story. Story telling is a hit or miss in most videogames. |

I should probably add that during side quests I don't tend to read the dialogue for those because I'm more focused on the main storyline. If I'm able to after I complete the game, then I will but if not then to Hell with it.

Sometimes, if I just wanna shoot stuff I'll skip the chat. Other times, I get into the story.

I value the story to most games over other stuff so I read all dialogue, with the exception of that god damn Owl in OoT...

Depends on if the story line is good or not, with Graal, it has no REAL storyline so I would feel like I wasted time reading NPC's (no offense, I don't even read pokemon npc's). But with games that do have a great story line and it interests me what people have to say then I will. Only game that comes to mind right now is Legend of Zelda: OoT
