Any Good 2d MMO Engines?
I absolutely love Graal as an engine; it's coding is nice and easy but still allows lots of functionality, level design is easy to learn, and it has a lot of base level stuff like projectiles and hit detection that allows you to save time reinventing the wheel. It's such an easy to use engine that a group of inexperienced teenagers can get together and make a quality MMO that stands out. Unfortunately, Graal is closed source and Stefan shows no sign of trying to commercialize the engine with royalty payments since people do work for free. I'm wondering if there's any 2d MMO engines out there that: -allow you to script/program so that you can customize your game rather than just making a cookie cutter MMO(IE maybe I want to make my own combat system, or maybe I want to develop a way players can modify the game world such as building a house on the world). This feature is a must -Are free, and allow you to use it for a commercial product(if it requires royalties, that's fine.) -Are either frequently updated, or open source so that I can fix the engine as needed. So far, this is all I've found, and it doesn't look like its a very well made engine. Sounds like passwords are stored in plaintext in a text document, data doesn't autosave despite running MMORPGs, lots of other bad stuff. http://www.dimensionex.net/documentation/ Found what looks like a quality engine, but its $70 just for the starter version, so I'm a bit hesitant. Also not certain if it supports 2d. |
