Lol wtf its really true? Damn, it's sad how powerful the hysteria over pedophilia has became, with people going to extreme measures to "protect children", many of which would have negative effects and pretty much no positive effects.
Wall of text:
People don't even think logically about the issue anymore, they just take the most simple course of action without putting any thought into the effects. After hearing about horrible events exaggerated by the media, people become motivated to put an end to such things, and strict laws get thrown together without much consideration. Pornography with flat chested women would not suddenly cause a man to become a *********, there's so many fallacies associated with that belief. Pedophilia is not something that is a choice, some men just happen to be attracted to children. A man won't become a ********* because of viewing a flat chested woman.
This applies to pretty much any crime. People get emotional over a sad event, they look for a scapegoat to take their anger and frustration out on, and they proceed to act with irrational hate to that scapegoat. One example is 9/11. It was a sad terrorist event in which thousands of innocent americans were killed. People were extremely upset, and many took out their anger on Muslims, acting extremely prejudiced against them even though most are innocent.
This is much like what happened with pedophilia. There were a few cases where a couple men had no self control, likely lost their sanity, and ended up doing horrible things. The media covered this very well, and public fear grew immensely.
To be fair, good things came from this fear. Parents became more careful with allowing their children to go out on their own, better regulations came into effect to protect children from such crimes(such as sex offender lists), and bans on child pornography eliminated the market for the crime, and prevented recordings of the illegal acts spreading uncontrollably.
However, the hysteria has become out of control. People make the assumption that every ********* is a sex offender, or at least has the mind of one, a misconception that bothers me immensely. Most individuals with this attraction know that what they may desire is not right, and do not want to act on their desires, and never do. Studies show that 1 in 100 men are exclusively attracted to children, 1 in 20 have significant attraction to them, and 1 in 5 have somewhat of an attraction. Now, based on data from the UK, 1 in ~40000 men is a registered sex offender for abuse of a child under 13. This may not account for those who haven't been caught, but I can be sure from this data that most don't act on it. The difference between a ********* and a child predator is roughly the same as the difference between an ordinary man and a rapist- just because someone has sexual desires does not mean they have no self control.
The fear of public antipathy, the lack of acceptance, and overall hatred all prevent *********s from getting help. For one to admit to having such attractions would mean to likely lose most of their friends, become disowned by their own family, and harassed by society-even if they never attempt to harm anyone. So many of them avoid potential counseling or whatever may help them control their desires, and keep it to themselves.
Idk why I wrote such a wall of text about this lol.
