Okay so, new heads, that's great! I'm glad to see some of the defaults being re-worked into better, and more diverse heads! Good job.
There are a few things that I'd like to point out though.
The faces of almost all of these heads are really, really off perspective.
Examples:
The eyes (on the side views) are below the nose, and the ears. Which looks really ugly.
Or this one, where the eyes are again; below the nose.
The skin isn't blended properly. Very little AA.
To be fair, most heads have little AA(anti-aliasing.) However, they blend the heavy shadows they have well. I feel like a lot of the new heads don't have very good AA.
This one for example; has a very pale pallet, but nothing is really blended. So it looks blocky and jagged where it shouldnt. The blushy cheeks are also not AA (or blended) at all. it makes the skin look cakey, and hard. The lack of eye brows also doesn't help this head.
Then there is this one...
This head has a good perspective on eyes, and where they'd be if facing the side. But the shape and jawline of the head are all
wrong. It looks very flat and jaw-less. The colours here are also very hard to see. They're not very well saturated to be complimentary and instead just fall really flat. I actually had to zoom in quite a lot before I could even see a difference in the shade vs. the normal, base skin colour. I also feel like some of the AA on the eyes were unnecessary. The hair here is also far too blocky.
A few decent ones!
This head has very nicely done hair. I love what has been done here. I feel like again, the side views are falling short , and I think that the bangs on the side views could use some dark AA in that heavy shadow where the hair and skin meet to give it more depth.
This head I also quite like. Again, the hair has been done fairly well, and I actually am a fan of how the original version looked. This one is just a tad too smooth with the hair. There is too much of a round shape, and no frills, or spikes like the original. The skin pallet also consists of 6 different colours, making it look too messy. The face (on the front view) is quite a bit blocky, and there isn't much AA apart from the eyes. The side view of this head like the other ones has
really bad perspective. The eyes are actually not too high, but the face is too long, and the hair line goes much farther back than it should. I understand that whoever made this is trying to capture the original; but they also need to consider how the perspective works with the new design. The back view is also just... kinda... I don't understand what or why it's like the way it is.
I've tweaked this one a tad; adding some frills towards the back, making the hairline less awkward. I've also made the face a bit smaller, and pulled it a pixel towards the direction its facing. I did not touch the front view though; as my main issue is the sides.(My edit is the one with the green background.)
TL;DR Fix the perspective on heads.
- Do not make the eyes lower than the nose, or the ears.
- Try to keep skin to a 3-4 colour pallet. 4 is pushing it, but if AA'd well, it'd look fine.
- Keep things as consistent as possible.
