Hi, everyone. A few hours ago I woke up and started charging my MacBook Pro. For some reason it would not charge the computer unless I placed it in some specific angle. I looked for a problem and noticed a large tear near the main charger. I've delt with stuff like this (iPhone chargers and the like) so I figured if I put some tape around it, I could prevent any further damage. As I was looking for tape in my room I started to smell something smokey. I looked over to the charger and saw smoke coming out from the tear. I quickly unplugged the charger and was unsure of what to do.
I grabbed some duck tape and wrapped a few layers around where the tear is. The charger works fine but should I still be worried that it will start burning up again? Remember that when it started burning up, there was no tape yet (it started to burn up after about 10 minutes of being plugged in). Since I put some tape around it, should it be ok? I wont leave it on overnight just to be on the safe side.
I also don't want to purchase a new charger since they cost around $80.00 at the Apple Store. Will the tape prevent any further burn ups? I've never experienced that with any other ripped chargers.
