AMD has one of the worst drivers out there.
I, myself, was an AMD user for over 5 years, their "auto-update driver software" is doesn't usually work if you have a connection slower than 10Mbps. Switching from power saving to High Performance in case you are using a laptop is one of the hardest things to manage, and sometimes might even crash your computer.
I've been using a GTM860M (4GB VRAM) for about 4 months now, and so far the only issue I had was running VR games in the Oculus, which had been eventually fixed. I didn't have to go through the trouble to update the whole driver again where Nvidia's system is perfect at auto updating. I just realized that the GTX has that feature where you can right click the app and run it under the GPU you want, I don't remember having that with the AMD card.
In my POV, you should go with Nvidia software-wise, for hardware though, that's dependent on how much you can spend.
