Dropping all your furniture to buy new ones...

Wow does that ever suck.
I hate putting it all down to go and get a couple new items or 'holiday' items from onnet general.

Can we get a 'drop all' button next to 'restore' that just auto places all the furniture in your inventory right in front of you?

Your furniture isnt much use sitting in your inventory anyway. Whydja buy it to begin with?

Well they could just make the max amount like 1000 right? Wouldnt be much of a change to store it in your inventory instead of on the ground of your house...

I recall dusty saying something about it being a nightmare of a system to tinker with...

But all the more reason to get it resolved, no?

It's really a pain and needs some solution...

As to why we bought furniture... just as in real life, when you have furnishings for your home, sometimes you like to move them around! It's WAY easier to snap them all up at once and move them around, but for a particular design, you sometimes don't want to use ALL your stuff. I have designated the spar room in my GH for storing all the items I am currently not using, but it's still a pain!

When I was doing diving I had it add as many loot as you had to your furniture. I did it with like 50 strange bricks at once and it messed up. It completely messed up my catalog of furniture(sort of desynced it from the server). I don't know why, but it did. It's odd because as staff I can add a lot of furniture and it works absolutely fine, but in the instance I messed with it, it didn't bode well. I imagine this is why the limit is in place.

It may be a good reason to get it resolved if it is within the power to do so... and I don't know if it is. It may be some sort of issue only Stefan can resolve. I'll need to ask him about it. To fix it as a scripter is maybe possible, but the furniture system has been around for a long, long time... it would take a very long time to resolve.

Even so, if the limit was lifted it would still have something like a 100 item limit. You gotta remember it has to store this stuff to your account, and storing hundreds of items would be bad for you and the server(it does have to sync this stuff). It may be cool to have sort of chest to store furniture in, but that adds its own complexities to the mix(that I'm not sure if it can be done in a way I feel confident in. One lost chest could mean a lot of gralats being lost).

So how does storing it in a list differ from storing it all assorted in your house? I imagine it would take less data (by a tiny number of bytes) to store the functional item than it would to indicate its placement in a level? Technically it would still be stored in your 'list' and just have co-ordinates and orientation added? Not to be rude... I am just perplexed as to how it could be such an issue if I am allowed to have 500+ furniture items in my pocket when I 'restore' it all, and yet if I have more than 15 I can't buy any new ones?

I guess the real issue, in my mind, is the acquisition of new items... if there needs to be a limit, that is understandable, but if I can somehow sneak around this by throwing all my old items down and then buying the new item and then just picking up my old items....

Mind boggling! Better bust out the portable hole and the Heward's Handy Haversack....
