Or not. There would be nothing accomplished in finding who is leeching, not like he'd confront them anyways. He just needs to secure it first(He can go with WPA2, but I have problems with WPA2 and Windows XP machines, and I don't know if Wii has WPA2 support), and then do further diagnostics from there. Could be a machine in his house doing it with an ugly trojan or something.
No. Bridging a modem is absolutely fine, especially if you have your own router, but that's not how it works.

It gained me extra speed. That's what Verizon suggested and it works.
