All I can say is s*** happens. Some people are just troubled and f****d in the head. Authorities probably just need to do a better job of recognizing any behavioral problems so that problems like this can be prevented.

I don't know much about the crime rates in any European countries, but out of any place, besides Chicago or lower parts of Detroit, I feel very safe in America. At least where I am in upper Michigan, I don't have a fear of losing my life to a scum with intentions of shooting up my school. Knock on wood.

I'm late but... 1. The 2nd Amendment is meant to protect the population from a tyrannical government. Anyone who even considers that banning guns is a valid solution is naive. The 2nd Amendment is the reason the U.S. could never ban guns. Gun owners would fight back against the government, and that threat would be real because those citizens have guns. It's smart that the founders did that. 2. America's geography also makes it naive to attempt to ban guns. Britain is often compared to the United States when it pertains to gun crime and gun control, but Britain is an island. It's much harder to illegally transport guns over water than it is over land. With our bordering Mexico and the ease of access that it has to other, unstable South American countries, guns and drugs will always be readily available in the United States as long as the demand exists. 3. Common sense gun control is just common sense. And thats why congress has done nothing about it. Universal background checks is common sense. Private gun sales without going through background checks is just a bad idea. 4. Why ban assault rifles? Why increase security at schools? Why arm teachers? These are all techniques to minimize loss, but not to prevent the attacks from happening in the first place. America's culture has created a youth generation that depersonalizes people, making it easy for someone to feel no remorse or guilt in committin crimes against others. I feel that this is largely due to technology. People feel more like robots. Online harassment is perpetrated by a person, but you don't see the person. They mean nothing to you and you mean nothing to them. That's why it's so easy to say anything online. We also need serious mental health reform. This probably won't solve the problems with the youth shooting up schools, but it will prevent many other violent crimes. Lastly, the reason nothing will change on this topic is because the political discourse is so disgusting. I even saw it with the Stoneman Douglas students. When one of them went on a rant attacking the NRA, that was poor political discourse, but no one was willing to call them out on it because of their situation. Blaming gun manufacturers for crimes committed by someone is dumb and naive unless the manufacturer had an actual role in providing a gun to someone they knew they shouldn't have. The poltical discourse is just really really bad and it's sad to watch, and it's sad to see everyone participate in that. Many people dislike congress and their inability to compromise and work together, but many of those same people also praise that very characteristic. The people who win local elections are those that are the most anti-opposition party. Nothing will change because of American voters that criticize the very thing that they enable and encourage.

Yeah, I don't know. Costs a fortune for any medical attention anyway. The Dickinson County Hospital in upper Michigan is simply awful. Facility looks nice but all the staff just can't do their jobs. The VA we have is very good, though. |
