While, in some ways, a lot of the criticisms you've been met with aren't too far from the truth, what you're doing isn't completely deserving of dismissal.
Sure, some that exhibit those sorts of behaviors ruin their chances, but, to me, it depends how they go about it. If it seems fake, or cringe, no. It's gotta be real, clean. Then, what's to dislike - it's an honest willingness to help.
But, yeah, believe it or not, I've seen a couple of those "PM me for help" people turn admin.
If they turned applicants down solely for stuff like that, I'm not sure I'd want to be a part of that club anyway. It's more than that.
You're nice, genuine, and seem intelligent enough, and, again, you want to help. So, you've got my vote. Granted, my vote means next to nothing in the way of actually getting you hired, but maybe it'll lift your spirits a bit. Not that you need it.
You got that confidence, right?
Edit: Though, I gotta admit, if getting hired on Ol' West is much like how it was when I spent more than a few minutes here and there on Era, a big chunk of it is about WHO you know as well as what you've got to offer. That said, apply that golden personality and win some hearts over. XD
