it's more purposeful than just that, you can use the tag for anything I'd assume
"boring wall sparrer"
"has extremely high ping"
"was blocked because he cries after every spar"
"pretends to be female"
etc.  

Lol i see some good statements.
anything that can help me remember a person's name would be fine with me.
the more i think about it, tagging is pretty great idea.

im done with these mofos come up to me with unknown/nameless and expecting some bs.  

What about a map tag system in the future aswell, to see the people you've tagged on the map if you don't wanna bother adding them, unblocking, and or being in a guild with them

Adding people randomly and using your map to follow them even for guild purposes, is stalking lol. Its been done for a while now.

I would love to see this implemented, so hard to tell who is who just by looking at they're stats  

Definitely support, too many people for there no to be some kind of identifier imo...:C  

I don't really see a point to this, if you don't remember someone by their name, then are they really worth remembering for you?

I think the only time I would use this is for people I rarely talk to, or talked once, and just so the next conversation won't be awkward, a tag would be nice to remember who they are.
