I used to have this issue- where I'd silence the alarm unconsciously. Then I graduated to snoozing it 15+ times. When it all comes down to it, you need to have a strong "Why" for waking up in the morning. When that "why" is stronger than your need for sleep, you'll dig deep and force yourself out of bed, regardless. I started getting serious about waking up when my wife was pregnant with our first daughter, and I needed to provide for the family. I worked in a Bakery, and sometimes I had to be clocking in at 4 AM. I couldn't afford to lose my job, so I forced myself up. After a while, it became second nature to wake up early. Nowadays I'm working a much more relaxed job, where I'm not expected to get there until 7 AM. I still get up at 3:30 AM, every single morning. My "why" now is that I want to get my morning run accomplished. When you have a family, full time job, and college, it's hard to fit this into the schedule during the waking hours. I found that, if I want to exercise at all, it must happen before anybody wakes up. As far as alarms, the others' recommendations are spot-on. Having multiple alarms in different areas of the room are helpful. My advice is to set them to different sounds, 1, 2, and 3 minutes apart. My wife is currently pregnant with our third, and I've come to find that I get the wrath of god thrown at me if I wake her up. So I've narrowed my alarms down to two: 1) An old cell phone, enclosed in one of those fitness arm straps. I have 10 alarms on this set to vibrate. No noise at all except for that "VMMMMMMMM" vibrating sound. It's more about the vibration on my arm that wakes me up. These are set at 3:15, 3:16, 3:17, 3:18........ 3:25 Usually this wakes me up. 2) My backup alarm is my current cell phone, with three alarms set at 3:27, 3:29, and 3:31. Each one has three different chimes, so if the vibratingx10 fails, then this succeeds. So tip to the OP: Find a "why" that's stronger than your want/like for sleep, and an alarm system that works for you. Good luck! edit: This actually does help. Every morning, I get in the shower and turn it on as cold as it can get. This helps with our water bill as well, because when it starts to get warm, I get out. Having done this for the past year or so, I took the Ice Bucket Challenge when I was challenged by my brother. Admittedly, it wasn't much of a challenge to me. In my opinion, those cold showers in the morning are more challenging, because you need to stay in the water stream. The Ice Bucket Challenge ends after a couple seconds; so by contrast, I found it to be easy.
