I mean I'm definitely getting a lot of positive feedback and acceptance Unfortunately that acceptance isn't from my mom. She caed me crying and making it about her saying how I made her look like a terrible mother by announcing it publicly. She also talked to me about how she wanted grandkids, like adoption isn't an option. All I'm saying is, I now understand why gay suicide rates are so high. |

I've never gone through anything like that, so it's much easier to talk about it than it is to actually go through it, but I suggest telling your mom and your brother that they aren't normal either, and just because you differ from them in one way, doesn't mean it's wrong, because they're also different from most people in some way. Especially if you/they are religious (Christian), I would tell them that God says all sin is equal, and they shouldn't treat you being gay like something terrible, just because they don't understand it. I knlw they're your family, but anyone willing to hurt their child just because they're different isn't someone you should let affect you deeply. Parents should have unconditional love for their children, and if they don't, then there is a problem with them, not you.

i came out to my mom in 2006 via msn where i announced suicide and she was worried and asking whats up and kept bugging me being frustrated in the end i told her in tears and she was like "its not that bad, its probably just a phase" is what she thought, until she heard me and my exboyfriend moaning in my room. i was really mad at her for thinking that it would just be a phase, my dad never thought of it as bad, since he traveled around the world meeting new people, and my granny was really cool, she asked about details and how its different lol i hope you have someone that gives you strength in these times |

Man I'm sorry about your mom, but I am glad you came out and can finally be who you are freely without having to hold back anything. I wish we didn't live in a world where 'coming out' was a thing. It should just be like how Gender is, male or female. No big deal. But no, some people have to think that being 'gay' is bad. Hope that all goes well. |

Hopefully your mother realizes that it isn't about image and she should be proud that she raised such a talented son. Seriously, you've got a lot going for you and just because your mom is a little tilted at who you really are, you shouldn't give yourself up. |

Just let your mom cool down and deal with the initial shock, I think she has the right to be upset at first. Look at it from her point of view, her own child kept a pretty big secret from her and when he finally came out he did it publicly without talking to her first, as a parent the last thing you want is your child to not feel like they can talk to you personally about stuff like this and it can easily upset parents when that's the case. As for things like grandkids, most parents hope for that and other things (especially because you waited so long to come out) so when they are told most of it won't happen it's obviously going to cause shock and take a while to sink in. I'm not saying it's okay for her to act like this, but there is probably a lot of emotions running through her head so you should just wait for it to all pass and she's in her right mind, I would be pretty upset if my child took this long to tell me something like this too. |

I'm super lucky/greatful that I have parents that would support me no matter what I do and I offer my deepest condolences to anyone who doesn't and cannot even imagine that. Your parents don't have to shape your life though, it's your life. |
