I am that friend and I wasn't forced to get a phone, I chose to. Know your information before posting. What you should be doing is working at CVS, accept payment in the form of cell phones, gather up a lot of cell phone, and sell them on any website that you can sell new/old phones. Then you make mad money. And please don't kill me and take my parents...

I just want a phone that'll be considered a "flagship" for a few years, not to be replaced every few months, just want it for help making new friends (I'm incredibly awkward in social situations). Snow shoveling isn't an option in southern California. Only art I can make is some amateur pixel art, so art commissions is an ehh.



Oh, they just use landlines and terrible old Nokia "bricks" that get very little to no use out of them.

Also the issue with the $7 drugstore flipphone for calling them or the cops, don't want a phone that I'd be embarrassed to be seen in public with.

Yes, and I have the drive to work for what I want, simply asking for advice as to what phone I should save for such that I won't have to worry about it being considered "obsolete" in only a few months; and how I should go about getting the sum of money to purchase said phone. It's not like I'm sitting here complaining without being willing to work for what I want.

It's the American Dream.

Apple's devices are even more pricey than other manufacturers' devices, and become obsolete even faster.

Plus, I'd rather not have to tamper so much with the software to be able to reach the level of customization that I desire.

I'd consider buying myself an iPhone only if my other options were significantly worse hardware-wise; but most other devices tend to have better specs than the iPhone at a lower/similar price (see: Oneplus One, HTC One m8, Sony Xperia Z3, Moto X, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, etc.)
