This happens on my iPod 4, but not on my iPhone 4S.

It would be more helpful if people posted their device specifics. Difference devices have different specs, and older devices or devices with poor specs may not have the hardware capable of keeping up with some of the processes that are being done as Classic started moving away towards catering to older devices.

Like which firmware and device you are on or something?

I get lag spikes similar to twilit on my iPad Mini.

I play with Kindle Fire HDX, and occasionally I log on and can't move at all. Is this what you consider a lag spike, or is your game just delaying?

I had to quit playing on my phone because of this, now I have an iPhone tho.
