I'm not a huge fan of trump, but I honestly think he's better than all the other candidates that actually stand a chance. I originally supported Rand Paul, but it's pretty clear he doesn't stand a chance of winning the primary, so I've given up on that. Ben Carson is too conservative for me. I think he's too sheltered in his views and is unlikely to accept new ideas. This is a problem, because it seems like his decisions are influenced more by his values than an open mind. Bernie Sanders has a poor understanding of economics and is trying to take on a role he can't handle. While I do think he has mostly good intents, I don't think his decision making will lead America to improve. I think he's very similar to Obama- amazing at getting the public excited and making good promises that sound good on paper, but ultimately has no idea how to make those promises actually work. For example, Obamacare was a complete failure and made health care LESS affordable. Many of his proposals would backfire and damage the economy in the long term. For example, raising the federal minimum wage to $15, and increasing benefits, will cause a push for automation and cutting jobs, leading to mass unemployment. With Hillary Clinton, there's a few things I like, but far too many things that bother me. I like her support of small businesses and the middle class, and trying to bring back profit sharing in corporations(profit sharing basically makes it so everyone in the company receives a share of profits and not just the top level executives). However, a lot of her stances on other issues bother me severely, I won't go into detail because I don't want drama. And then of course, there's the whole email thing-can you really trust her?\ I honestly hate all of the candidates for the most part. The only reason I support Trump is because I know that he has experience running a business, and isn't being funded by lobbyists, so I know he has the best chance at fixing the economy unlike the other candidates that mainly just try to push ideals. Trump is upfront with his beliefs, doesn't sugar coat anything, doesn't take contributions, and seems to have the most powerful background in economics. For this reason I currently support him. I may disagree with some of his personal views, but the same is true of other candidates, so at least he's our best hope of fixing our horrible economy. Pretty much every candidate promises to fix corporate tax loopholes, but it never happens. I'd think Trump probably would be the best at achieving this, because he's owned a business for years and is familiar with how businesses operate. |

I suppose that's true, that he'd know corporate tax loopholes. But why would you want someone who is primarily concerned with improving his on wealth in charge of America? disclaimer: am Australian, I may not be up to date. |

Sugar around the world is 10x cheaper than American sugar. The US has a tariff on imported sugar that is high enough(thanks to rich sugar companies that bought politicians) to make American sugar cheaper than foreign sugar. THUS we the Americans are screwed because we get to pay 10x more for sugar than the rest of the world. So imagine if a lot of products had the same thing? Would you say we would end up paying more? Love how you talk about 'bought politicians' and then proclaim your support for the biggest sellout in the world. You could say the same thing about a sales tax, should we get rid of that too?? It makes prices higher. Tariffs are really an economic leftist ideal so I don't know why you support a democratic candidate and then attack trade protectionist policies. Maybe you don't even know what the party you support stands for? I am not a big supporter of Tarrifs, I'll be honest I'd much rather a VET/GST with lower income taxes. However, you cannot possibly count Trump out with ignorance about Tarrifs. Trying to say he will start a 'trade war' is laughable. Yes, it may cause inflation. What would you rather, unemployment or inflation? Personally, I'd go with inflation.
I just want to say, currently the GOP controls congress. The Democratic candidates are promising the moon, when really they cannot actually come through with it if the current shape of congress stays how it is (personally, I don't think the Dems have even the slightest chance of capturing the House). |

But yes, Glazy did have a point. You cant just go in and slap tariffs on every import against nations we have good trade relations with. |

@Lowes Calm down cowboy, this is not an argument I was pointing out something you were having a hard time understanding. You can find comments about any politician that makes them sound like hypocrites.
Tariffs can create revenue for the government like taxes, but when they apply it to imports it is to give american companies an advantage in the economy. If the imports have a tariff and consumers buy domestic products does the government get significant revenue? You're comparing apples to oranges.
But to answer your question. I guess it depends on the situation. Very low inflation against high unemployment is not the same as high inflation against low unemployment. Your question is to simplistic to give an educated answer. Here's some better questions: 1. Does inflation lead to unemployment? 2. Does unemployment lead to inflation? |
