Sea of Thieves
Sea of Thieves released yesterday, and despite the issues I've had fun playing it with friends. Has anyone else given it a try? You can pick it up for free for two weeks if you get the Xbox Gamepass (just make sure you cancel the subscription before you're charged). I have some concerns about the longevity of the game given the current content, but if they stick to their current plans I think it will be fine. Microsoft Store Link |

Had a lot of fun playing during the beta but don't really see myself picking it up unless it drops down in price or the pace of development picks up. The content that was there was great, there just really wasn't enough of it to justify a $60 price tag. It felt like a half finished game which is understandable when it's beta, but from what I've heard they haven't added a whole lot for launch. Will probably try it out again with the Xbox Gamepass but having overplayed it during the beta I doubt I'll put many hours into it. |

My friends and I just encountered the kraken for the first time, and it was pretty underwhelming. The visuals were cool, but we killed it in less than a minute and there were no casualties. There wasn't any treasure to be found, either. |

I was able to play for a while with Slacky and some of his friends. I had a lot of fun sailing a 4-man ship by myself. The others were not fond of how slow paced the galleon is compared to the Sloop. I wish that a 4-player sloop match or a 4-player with two sloops match was possible. I really, really enjoy the sailing. There were times when the waves were uneasy I felt my stomach drop as we soared over a wave and landed. The sailing is the true highlight of the game for me. I'm not too fond of the combat. More often than not I find myself having to kite skeletons. There is also an odd delay that happens occasionally when in melee combat. I struggle with combat in 3D games and that is more than likely a reason why I am not fond of it. The treasure hunting is okay, as it gives a reason to go out and explore. I have not learned much about that, the other people I played with were responsible for finding the adventures. I don't like how gold doesn't get added until you relog. That's likely a server issue, though. I am still not sure about that $60 price tag, as well with the microtransactions that will be coming. I am going to be playing for the two weeks I was given for free and decide if I really want to buy it. If the Sea of Thieves player base dies off I hope that people will still be allowed to play. I favor peer-to-peer based multiplayer because it helps the game to outlast its lifecycle. |

I had a fun little accident today when trying a solo run out. I was too concerned about watching an enemy ship I forgot to bail. I turned off the recorder between the two parts. What is missing is me finding the guy at the outpost directly ahead at the end of part one. I end up killing him on the island and return to his boat. I thought he sold all the stuff really quickly so I started bombarding his ship. |

You might be surprised - if you're willing to stomach lower resolutions, the requirements are fairly low. Here's the requirements article from their support site. The image on this page lists the requirements. |
