5hift's New PC Build (WiP)
So I decided to finally start the construction of my own PC. A friend of mine went through Newegg and picked out some parts for me but since I'm no expert with this stuff I thought I'd show you guys and see what you think ![]() Now I am on kind of a tight budget, I'm trying to spend as little as 500 USD. That said, I'm not really looking for a super hardcore gaming PC. I'm mainly looking for a decent setup that can handle itself well while being able to run games smoothly. If you see any parts that you know a cheaper but good alternative for please feel free to point that out to me. Many thanks. |

You could wait for zen which is coming later this year or if you need it now get a 4th gen intel i5(dont know the model numbers) Also a ssd is a good idea, even a small $50 one that just holds windows will be a huge upgrade. People say a ssd is the single biggest upgrade you can give a pc. Edit: Also if you could find a 380 for the same price of the 960 get the 380, its slightly better |

Probably going to gut one of my other crappy PCs and use the case for this. My friend showed me this 150 dollar case but I really don't feel like investing that much in just the case. I know there are some pretty cheap cases out there but for now, I'm mainly concerned with the components that I don't have.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819113286 I've heard its really good for budget PCs like mine. Looks like it runs with 2 less cores but I really don't need all that processing power for where I'm going. And I had a look at some of those Intel i5 and i7 processors. Way too expensive for me. My friend says to hold off on the SSD even though bootup will probably take a bit longer. OT: 5k posts for 5hift. Lets go bois. |

![]() Motherboard was located in the bottom right part, power source was in the top right, and hard drive was in the bottom left. EDIT: Top left part is for the disc drive but I don't plan on putting it back in.

Form factor: microATX Apparently it should work...but I'm not sure about the power supply area. |

Are all power sources the same size? Original power source was 6 inches long and 5 and a half inches wide. On its side it was 5 and a half inches long and a little less than 3 and a half inches wide. It goes in on its side. EDIT: Revised list of parts: ![]() Managed to get below 500 bucks which is pretty sweet. EDIT EDIT: Now I just realized that the motherboard I have won't fit since it isn't a micro ATX. Know any good micro ATX motherboards that support the FX-6300?

Ok... Another build which should work. Got a new micro ATX mobo and new processor to go with it (better than FX-6300). Still just below 500 bucks so things look good so far.

Intels processors are 2expensive4me. If I wanted something from Intel with my budget it'd probably be a ****ty i3 processor, literally the same one my laptop uses. I'd be pretty pissed off if my desktop used the same processor as my laptop. Here is the updated build: ![]() Ditched the FX-6300 for an A10-7870K so it could be compatible with the mobo. Also got a different version of the GTX 960 since I wasn't exactly sure if the other one was going to fit in my case. I think this may be my final build for now. Put this through PCPartPicker.com and everything looks good. |

The i3 6100 is far from ****ty and is a much better pick than anything AMD right now. It is on par or better than AMD's FX-8350 when paired with a GTX 960 or similar performance graphics card. e.g. http://www.techspot.com/review/1087-...cpu/page4.html PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor ($117.59 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Asus H110M-A Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($51.98 @ Newegg) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($26.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($47.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 380 4GB Double Dissipation Video Card ($190.80 @ Newegg) Case: Enermax OSTROG ATX Mid Tower Case ($38.25 @ Newegg) Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($44.98 @ Newegg) Total: $518.58 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-05-10 23:56 EDT-0400 |
