All of my games got to that age point where they just stopped working. Even my rarish SMB games, but my Pokemon games really bummed me out. Has this happened to any of you guys? They would work for a minute or two and just crash.

I few years ago I considered selling my GBA SP (*cough* along with my aluminum collectors case w/ all accessories). Went online to find comparable prices; everywhere I looked, secondhand SP's were selling for $40-60.

Anyways, my final decision would be getting a GBA SP lol. GBA SP has more access to some of the older game library to during the Gameboy's lifespan while the DS can only play GBA games. A DS Lite cost about 40 bucks and a GBA cost ehh 20-30 dollars more or some at the same price but the GBA can has access to more library. Also, the DS plays GBA games on the bottom screen which is weird lol. |

I really think an emulator is a hella lot more convenient and reliable but do what you want. In fact, before I knew emulators were a thing, I considered getting a Gameboy Advance myself to play Pokemon Sapphire but obviously called that off after I found GBA4iOS. Also don't really bother with the DS. The Pokemon games for it aren't really that great. Honestly my best memories with the DS had to be with Mario Kart 7. Tears were shed, friendships were broken. |

Games could be bought for pretty cheap. Let me tell you a story. I was 9, and I got "Mario and sonic at the Olympic Winter Games" for my Nintendo DSi. Me and my friend loved playing the "Bingo Bash" mode on multiplayer. So we did that on a road trip, and I went to switch games, and I dropped the cartlige, It landed in the seat, and I tried to fish it out, but it was stuck. After the road trip, it was late and I went to bed, and the next morning, we sold the car, and got a new one. A couple of years later, we went to a second-hand store and alas! I saw a copy of the game for sale, and it was only 6 bucks! The end. So, second-hand games are cheap. |

I wouldn't go for the ds option if you're gunna go with an original ds. Original ds is clunky, ugly, has very dim brightness, and is a pain to hold. The ds lite still has a GBA port and it's so much sleeker and has a normal brightness. Though if you're gunna get the GBA sp 101 make 100% sure it's a 101 and not a 001. It's hard to tell for me a lot of the time because the only place in my area you can get them are cons and almost all the gameboys sold are both dead and the labels ripped off so there's only one other way to check. This also applies online when the pictures may not show you the label. ![]() These are my two advance sp. The dark blue one on the left is a 001, you can tell because it has the typical gray gameboy screen, it has a crapass frontlight screen. The steel blue one on the right is a 101 and has a black screen like you see on all backlight electronics today. I hope this helps, I ordered the dark blue one online which made it hard to know it wasn't a 101. If you order it online look for pics of the gameboy open with the screen showing so you can know if you're actually getting the 101 ![]() edit: I forgot to mention!! Personally, I wouldn't go for the emulator option especially if you're using an iphone. The free ones are usually laggy and crash damn near every time you go on multi-tasking. Half the time I try to restore my last save it ends up crashing/playing for a few seconds then freezing too. Suuuper frustrating. |

A con. Go to local cons in your area. If you live in a decently enough populated area there should be a couple or so a month and a big one every few months. Smaller cons ocasionally have 1-2 people selling games and consoles. Bigger cons obviously have more people selling these. Make sure to check the gaming room in bigger cons and not just the merch floor even if you aren't planning on gaming because the gaming room usually has the con's biggest supplier of gaming merch set up. You have to be lucky though. Usually these vendors only have a small supply of gameboys in stock with them and if they are fairly priced tend to sell out by Sunday. They are sold around $30-45 dollars for normal colored ones and upwards of $150 for rarer pokemon gameboys. Be prepared though, most of the advance sp are scratched up pretty bad. I managed to haggle down my 101 to $20 I advise you try and bring the price down if it's scratched up too. They are almost always sold with a charger included too.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but don't you basically still run games with 100% accuracy if you use one of thoce carts that are packed with roms and pop it in your GBA/SNES/whatever?
