guys can 50 fishing rods get us one kraken by fishing and getting sea chests

Getting any weapon from the seachests is randomized, some people might get it with the first fish they catch and others might be unlucky and get none with a million caught fish

Level 57, and I've only gotten 3 of the melees, thus far. Fish knife, pirate swords, and, most recently (within the past level or two), kraken.

I'm a terribly unlucky person though.

I had to catch around 80 sea chests before I got a kraken.

It's definitely possible, you just have to keep fishing and be patient!

I got the trident on my 8th chest and I already had the kraken since I made it xD

Kinda took me around 40-60 sea chests to get the Kraken. If you're trying to get the Kraken out of determination, you'll get bored of fishing fast. Just keep fishing while enjoying it and the Kraken will eventually come to you.
