I thought he said "so you say I am" and then they gave into the crowd wanting him dead so as not to start a riot, but they never actually found him guilty of anything. The Jewish leaders wanted him dead for "blasphemy". Personally I think they were just mad because he made them look bad.

Nope. There was a political reason for it. The Romans did not want Hebrews to have a leader other than Caesar.

Similarly, it also infuriated King Herod the Great, who commanded his soldiers to commit infanticide in Bethlehem shortly after Jesus was born. The use of the word 'King' is what infuriated these leaders, because it meant a challenge to their power.

It had nothing to do with 'blasphemy.' Jesus caused a lot of trouble in a public place where commerce was going on, and Roman guards arrested him for it. When they asked him if he was claiming to be the 'King' of his people, he conceded to the title instead of denying it. So that combined with him kicking people out of the temple was what got him put to death.
