Defo sounds like a failing disk like fp4 said. Maybe take this as an opportunity to upgrade to an SSD if you can?

SSD's are great. I recommend them if you're planning on switching out HDs.

O well time to get some cash somehow. Maybe I will get a job on a Graal server and sell some staff positions. Thanks for all the advice

Running my OS on a SSD currently. It has been a truly fantastic upgrade, but I can tell you that if you do get one, try to keep it totally clean except maybe for program installations. (And store everything else on high-capacity, high rpm analog drives since the space you pay for is dirt cheap.) Like most drives, even solid states don't deal well with being full. :p And like others have said, if it has gone on this long you should probably invest in a new one soon and maybe migrate your files there before the drive dies. If it has trouble with reading and writing, that's definitely not a good sign. |
