If Donald Sterling was to sue the NBA. Would he win because they violated his First Amendment right of freedom or speech? The conversation was private and he may be scum for what he said, but that doesn't explain why they are also trying to make him sell him team.  

No, he would not win because the NBA is a private organization. It is allowed to ban anyone it wishes from said organization, regardless of constitutional rights.

the nba has to look out for its best interests and it needs to protect its image. Having a "racist" owner in their league is going to hurt the nba's image and affect their overall revenue. Then you take into consideration that the majority of the clippers are black, so you cant have them playing for a racist. Just look at how fast paula deen went downhill when it came out that she used the N word.
