Underrated Anime
Was there ever an anime series which you thought was incredible, despite it not being very well known or rather obscure? Discover this new series that hasn't been brought to light yet? Post about them, I want to try out some obscure (quality) shows I've never heard about. And, general underrated anime and discovery thread. One of my favorites was Inu X Boku SS, as you may have seen me mention on occasion. I hear little to nothing (actually, nothing) about this series no matter where I go unless it's a site/forum dedicated to the show, and those are very few and far between. The show is about a middle school girl with a terrible habit, who moves out of her house to live by herself into a superficially prestigious hotel, designed for "people of her kind". Inu Boku SS has a really nice storyline and strong character development given the short nature of the series, and presents elements of fantasy while still introducing very realistic slice of life problems and hurdles. The music and OST is incredible, all of it was composed specifically for the series and lets off a comforting feel very befitting of the series. Artwork and presentation is top-notch - the art and even the setting remains very modern and minimalistic while still being very beautiful and calming. The series also squeezes in some very hilarious scenes and perfect comedy relief, despite not being a heavy drama-focused series. The protagonist is finally very well-done and executed nicely with brilliant character development. There are some quirks in the series, however; the ones come to mind are some scenes of fanservice, one or two clich? moments, and some unrealistic elements (but that's why it's a fantasy!) - though, the fanservice is honestly ignorable and thankfully not over-the-top. There are a few clich? phrases and moments in the early episodes but they all but thin out by the end of the series. Overall, this is a very, very nice show and I'm thoroughly surprised it isn't popular as I think it caters perfectly to the same types of people who enjoyed Sakurasou. I encourage you to give the show a shot if you're into romances, comedies, or slice of life and even fantasy. The first episode may seem cheesy, rushed and maybe a little clich?, but look past it! It really flourishes into something great. Now that I remembered this show, I'm off to rewatch it.

I've known about it for awhile, since this seasons anime shows are over (except for a couple), I'll get around to watching it. As for my contribution for this thread, Dangan Ronpa. It's a series based off a visual novel, where the newly accepted students of Hope Peak's Academy plays a game of life or death. It feels like a blend between Deadman Wonderland and Phoenix Wright. |

Not 100% sure of how obscure these two are, but haven't heard of them too much. My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Life Romantic Comedy: http://myanimelist.net/anime/19221/O..._Jama_****eiru Danganronpa: http://myanimelist.net/anime/16592/D..._The_Animation |

First one is hilarious as hell. Second one, as stated above, I'm currently watching. Ep.11 right now. |

Ouran High School Host Club http://myanimelist.net/anime/853/Ouran_Koukou_Host_Club OHSHC is not what you think it is, it's absolutely hilarious. It's tying with Mirai Nikki for first on my imaginary 'best anime list'. The dubbed version's voices suit their roles well and although it might not be what many of you here like, I recommend it. You will love it.

DanganRonpa... First time i watched, I was crazy about it. I loved it. About a week later, i re-watched it with my friends and saw how cheesy it really was. I liked the anime, but the main character acted like he was a saint or something. He went off with trusting everyone, claiming no one would betray them yadah yadah yadah. The ending was also pretty cheesy and annoying. The mysteries and the executions were cool though. I liked how they changed the art style for the executions. However, that pink blood...

Please, don't say a Shonen anime and call it under rated.

For anime Underrated in the west, but not in the east, Hunter x Hunter. A way better Shonen series compared to the big 3 without a single filler, just the way Shonen series should be. Doesn't feel carried out for so long since each arc is just really good on it's own, but it's about to end since it's about to reach the manga and the author is in hiatus for years. |

I'd say Tsuritama. Too lazy to give a description. I'd just mislead you.

Another underrated anime I've seen is Mashiroiro Symphony: The Color of Lovers. This series is like your average old harem anime. A boy meets a girl while helping out his sister and it seems like "fate". They start going to school together and began building their relations. The guy meets other girls in school and boom he gets a harem. BUT that is not what made this series so good. (Somewhat spoiler to what I'm going to explain. Read the spoiler if you don't really care for spoilers) Spoiler
Another good thing about this anime is that it's one of those harem anime where the main character is a pervert or a wimp. He's pretty cool and deserves to gain the appreciation from all the girls, unlike most Harem MC. Plus he has a good choice in friends where his best friend also isn't a damn pervert. |
