I just got the E-mail newsletter about this news, and its funny, jagex fails at comprehension yet again. The goal of it is to get more free players memberships and eliminate bots and scammers. So heres how it apparently works:

1) buy a bond with real cash

2) trade bond in game for in-game items from other players or membership

3) frolic around until you get murdered by a unicorn or something


The mod who announced this really made the article look like its his big idea to end scamming and getting everyone memberships. I dont think its a very effective strategy, but whatever floats their boats. Heres the link to the article:

I thought it was a cool idea and was a nice train of thought. I don't see why anyone should be complaining. What I don't understand is how it's going to be the end of gold rwt.

As predicted, everyone hoped on board and bought bounds to quickly cash in at the rate of $1AUS = 2mil in game. Since there's so many bonds in the market, the price is predictably going down making rwt better value for money and thus more attractive.

It is however a safer more secure method so that does hold a certain amount of appeal, but still... I'm still scratching my head myself as to how this will completely eradicate gold rwt...

I watched their twitch live stream and they were speaking of some models that would alter certain things in the market which would even things out, but they didn't go into specifics on that sadly :C but all in all, they do seem to know what they're doing and so, it doesn't seem like such a far out idea as everyone would've originally thought at first glance without bothering to think too much in depth about it.

I see where your coming from, and you have some good points. What I'm concerned about is that people will start doing scams with bonds instead of items and gold, making the scamming situation a bit worse.  

It's a great idea, it's based of the old Chronoscroll system on Tera that allowed people to buy subscriptions with in game gold from other characters.

People who wanted to make gold off of their RL money bought those instead of relying on dangerous gold selling websites, which supports the game rather than the same people that spam the chat with their websites. People who want a subscription can still get it without paying just by playing, and they don't have to risk giving away account information so that someone can buy it for them.

Wonderful idea.
