It's not a significant difference between a bad player (iPhone etc.) and a good player (Sansa Clip, etc.) but it's definitely noticeable. Most of the time its the amp you're using, if you are using one.  

Talon babe, I need advice on what to get. I've got a maaaaad budget. What are the absolute best headphones you know? price isn't an issue.  

Well, if you want the best audio experience you can get, you're going to need an Amp/DAC to go along with the headphones, which can be pricey. Anyway, the rig I'd recommend you would be the Sennheiser HD800 ($1,500~) and the Woo Audio WA2 ($1,200). I'd recommend reading up on Head-Fi threads on both of them. Good luck.

That's pretty much it, around ~$2,900, maybe $3,100 if you want to invest in a good sound card and/or player. For sound cards I'd suggest the ASUS Xonar Essence STX and for players (probably wouldn't be using this rig portably lol) I'd suggest the Cowon J3.

Bit deep, lol. Awesome though, I'll see if I can bargain or something hahah.  

If you want to go a little cheaper you can sub the HD800 with an Audez'e LCD-2 or Sennheiser HD700, they'll both run you $1,000 new and maybe $800 used. I'd still recommend the WA2 amp, though.

No budget? Get an MSB Diamond DAC (to override Samsung's ****ty audio cards) with femtosecond Galaxy Clock upgrade with a Diamond Power Base - this should run you about $41,490. Along with the DAC, you'll need an amp, so pick up a Blue Hawaii Special Edition amp: it's about $5,990. Get a custom Mackie HR824 cable and interconnects from APS Audio for about $2,800. Finally, for the headphones, get a Sennheiser Orpheus HE90 for about $13,800.

And while you're at it, buy me a Sennheiser HD700.

ya sadly the cost:quality ratio of headphones peaks off after about $1,000, increases in quality are very minor.

Holy ****. Alright lemme make that budget a $1500 maybe that'll stop my wallet from crying.

Audez'e LCD-2, you don't need an amp but it is HIGHLY recommended. A good amp for it will be about $200 maybe, with the cans costing $1,200~.
