Gimp or Paint.net
Hey! Just want some good GFX members opinions, what software do you use to make your graphics? Some I know are Paint.net, GIMP, and Photoshop. What about you? Get some discussion going because i need opinions!

Okay, I need some critics here fast. (Trying out paint.net, this is my first attempt of shading, ever, while it is bad, im posting it because i would like some tips! Maybe?) ![]() Black/white one i used wider shades. Yellow is used smaller, tighter shades. |

Noticed, how many color shades should go up? Example; Black is 0, shading up from that 10 would make it lighter, then 20 even lighter, 100 being white.

If you're trying to make a blend from pure white to pure black, I'd do it in a line rather than a circle. If you want to shade a circle, the shadows and highlights curve around the shape rather than diagonal lines. Also, you don't need too many colors to shade. Part of the art form is using minimal colors to create quality detail. This example uses dithering, a technique that a lot of people use; it's basically putting the different shades in a checkered pattern so when you zoom out, it looks like it's blending. Though keep in mind, you shouldn't overuse it or things start to look grainy. I try not to use dithering if it's not necessary. I'd use paint.net for pixel work and GIMP for almost everything else, including animations, if I were you.
