Of Mice and Men is pretty good. Some other books: Home, The Left Hand of God (Note in this one there is a very graphic mutilation/rape scene so if you are squeamish don't read it), Really like all the Edge Chronicles books, The Wasp Factory (Also has graphic scenes) and a few others I can't remember. Also 1984 is amazing!
