How obscure is Graal currently?
I've been wondering this for a while. I've never met anybody that has played this game recently in real life, or on a public form, or really anywhere. No matter how hard I've tried. I've only ran across a few people that played it back before 2001, but none that have played the modern version. Its like graal has dropped off the face of the planet since then. But when you go onto the front page of GraalOnline.com, there's usually about 5,000 people playing the game across all servers. Which is pretty good. When you compare that to iOS MMOs such as Order and Chaos, it looks like Graal is way more well known. But from my experience that isn't the case. I've met plenty of people that know about Order and Chaos. I'm just wondering if anyone has a better sense of how obscure this game is, because from my perspective it is currently about as obscure as you can get despite the decent playercount.

I'd say fairly obscure. We simply aren't "on the map" as much as games like Order and Chaos. I bet a lot of people dismiss graal at the most as mediocre. Which it somewhat sorta is, but the potential is fairly high. So far the highest potential servers by my standards and intuition will be, in order from lowest to highest, Atrius if Stefan lets it go multiplatform (it technically is too good to really say it has "potential", at least from what I know so far), iEra, and Delteria. Once iEra gets some momentum on the large updates like the storyline and stuff, it'll probably pick up more people. Atrius is definitely going to be pretty high quality, so it will bring in quite a few people. Delteria will probably get better as it picks up a higher and higher playercount at the same time.

I've never met anyone who plays Graal or even knows about it, simply because I'd rather not ask.

I've never met anyone that plays graal just randomly. I only know of a few people in my life that play graal but that is because I introduced the game to them.

If Stefan and Stephane did even just one commercial on Disney Channel, or whatever it'd do great.

Not many people know about Graal because it isnt talked about much outside of the community. Even myself, had to get used to Graal before being able to tell other people about it and the App store summary is misleading. It would be popular if people could easily learn how to play it and had a deep understanding of the game; instead of the summary that is supposed to appeal to the common player. Overall, I do enjoy the game though.

I think it's because there isn't much advertising, and there aren't many hard-core gaming things to do. Classic is more for hanging out, and Era and Zone kind of make graal more full-on, but not by much. Besides, there isn't much emphasis on storyline or PvP/monster killing. One of my favourite MMO's is Eden Eternal. I play this often because there are practically monsters everywhere and you can duel players, do dungeons with parties, have guild wars, there are so many classes to choose from it's not funny, and there is a storyline/questline! Out of these things, graal doesn't have: -duels (spar doesn't count. This is where you propose a duel, the other person says yes, and you fight in the area you proposed the duel in) -monsters to fight everywhere(yes, there are baddies in Classic but...) -A storyline (no servers have this!) -Quests. These are what I hop onto EE for. -dungeons -Parties I kinda got off topic.... |

Because Gameloft, Com2Us, and others actually make an effort to get people to notice their games.

I'm pretty sure the reason no one ever wants to ask if someone plays Graal lies within the fact that Graal is a very social game. When you're talking to someone IRL, it's probably a little weird to bring up Graal because of how casual and interactive the game is. It's more of an interactive chat room than a game, and you can't deny that everyone who plays the game eventually makes friends within the game, etc. That's probably a little awkward to consider, and maybe that's why people don't talk about it. Maybe not, just a theory. "Hey, have you played Graal?" "No, what's that?" "A game where you can chat with other people and swing your sword a lot, but mostly a game where you hang around with online friends." "Cool." Then they never talk to you again. |
