I started Minecraft last night,and just wondering if anyone knows any good tips for mining.And yes,I already know not to dig straight down.And at what point in the ground does iron,gold or diamond come?

And btw don't try hurting me,my bodyguards are cows  

Y:12 is where the iron/diamonds are at  

Diamonds are usually around level 10. You can find pretty much everything else the too, I'd recommend banch mining, which is just oing down to level 7 and digging 1 block wide tunnels 2 blocks away from eachother.

Press F3 and it will give you a bunch of statistics, on the middle left hand side it will give you your coordinates, y measures elevation, y:64 is about sea level, y:4 is bedrock level, and y:15-5 is diamond level.
