So I have a level 18 charmeleon and the first gym is impossible because I die instantly... what should i do, level up a grass pokemon?

bringing a fire type pokemon to a rock type gym isn't the best idea, you may need to work on training a grass or water pokemon which are the most effective in a battle based on the stats I see about his pokemon.
