Here is my unbiased review as a year 1 destiny player who stopped when the DLCs cost the same as the game.
The story is good, not amazing but it's enjoyable to play through. The PvE aspect of the game is also good and much improved from destiny 1 with a lot more activities to do that don't feel as 'grindy'. Loot is much more common now aswell.
Loot wise, it's early to say since raids aren't out but the exotic items which in destiny 1 were the be all end all item that you wanted to collect, that were really rare are SO common now. You literally get 2-3 exotic items just from the campaign, triple that if you make alt accounts and trade the items to your main. In 2 days i've gotten a total of about 8-9 exotics and to put that in comparison I don't think I had an exotic in destiny 1 until 3 weeks- a month of playing. Maybe even more. They don't feel valueable, and imo aren't that interesting lookwise compared to original destiny. I want the destiny 1 exotics that have been ported into destiny 2 that i've already used in destiny 1 more than any of the new exotics in destiny 2.
And this is my personal view but I think the armour doesn't look that great, especially the shoulders (for titans) and helmets. They are clearly all based off of medieval knights rather than the halo spartans that some of the armours were similar to in destiny 1.
PvP aspect I just played and I honestly think it's horrible. I really liked destiny 1's pvp but D2's just sucks. Movement is so slow and the variety of guns is so limited since shotguns/ snipers were moved into the special category that only 1 person every minute or so can use until they die. It's really just whoever aims first wins. I mean I got a 3.6 k'd in the first pvp match I ever played and I didn't feel like it was rewarding at all/ felt like I even played well. No skill base whatsoever.
As for the main content of the game it's maybe a bit too familiar. The subclasses are basically the same, the armour/ weapons looks the same in some cases so a lot of the time spent in D1 learning the mechanics doesn't really exist.
If you've never played Destiny 1 though you will have a lot of things to discover/ tryout.
Cosmetics such as the good looking shaders being microtransations when they were free in destiny 1 is also something that has really annoyed me with this game.
Hard to think of how to recommend this game, on one hand it isn't worth the price but the thing with how the progression works in destiny, if you wait 6months- 1 year for the sale by then all the content people are working through now will no longer be relevant and you'll be doing it by yourself.
7/10- 8.5/10 if you've never played destiny before
