I'm looking into the i5 range but can someone explain what the difference is between 6400, 6500, 6600 and 6600K?

Clock speeds
The k at the end of the 6600 means its easier, and basically made for overclocking, but you would need a specific mobo in order to do so
Like I said, i would recommend the 6500, in terms of gaming only, each processor gets about 5 more frames avg than the next.
The 6500 give you the best performance for the amount of money spent.
